Experienced Senior Accountant
£44,000 - £60,000 DOE | Coventry | Permanent, Full-Time
If you're an experienced practice accountant ready to move beyond pure production and take greater ownership of review, quality and team development, this could be an excellent next step.
A well-established accountancy business is looking for an Experienced Senior Accountant to take responsibility for reviewing client work, resolving technical queries and supporting the development of junior colleagues.
Based in Coventry, this is a role for someone who enjoys varied client work, takes pride in getting the detail right and wants genuine responsibility rather than simply a larger workload.
The Role
The focus is on ensuring work is accurate, technically sound and delivered to a consistently high standard. You'll still be involved in preparation where needed, but a meaningful part of your time will be spent reviewing work, providing technical guidance and helping others develop.
The client portfolio includes owner-managed businesses, limited companies, partnerships and larger consolidated groups, giving you plenty of variety and requiring strong technical knowledge and commercial awareness.
You'll also play an important part in coaching junior colleagues, sharing your experience and helping raise standards across the team.
What You'll Be Doing
- Reviewing statutory and management accounts for accuracy, completeness and compliance
- Overseeing the preparation and review of Corporation Tax, Personal Tax and partnership returns
- Taking responsibility for final review and sign-off of completed work
- Preparing and reviewing dividend and interest planning calculations
- Working with auditors to resolve queries and technical accounting matters
- Reviewing accounts for medium-sized businesses and consolidated groups
- Building strong client relationships through clear and professional communication
- Identifying opportunities to add further value across the client portfolio
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members with technical queries and development
- Working alongside management to improve processes, consistency and quality
- Responding to internal and external queries accurately and efficiently
What We're Looking For
You'll ideally be ACA or ACCA qualified with strong experience gained within an accountancy practice.
You should be confident reviewing the work of others, dealing with technical accounting matters and managing a varied portfolio. Experience with group accounts, consolidations and statutory reporting will be particularly valuable.
You'll also bring:
- Proven practice experience within a busy, deadline-driven environment
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Experience with complex group consolidations and statutory reporting
- Confidence dealing with auditors and resolving technical queries
- Excellent attention to detail and a consistent approach to quality
- Strong communication skills with clients and colleagues
- The ability to coach and develop less experienced team members
- Confidence using accounting software and interrogating financial information
- A proactive and commercially aware approach to client service
- A genuine interest in keeping your technical knowledge current
What's On Offer
Alongside a £44,000 - £60,000 salary depending on experience and qualifications, you'll receive:
- Company car or car allowance following a qualifying period
- Profit share scheme following a qualifying period
- Medical insurance following a qualifying period
- 30 days' holiday including bank holidays
- Flexible working hours
- Free quality lunch four days per week
- Reward lunches and team-building events
- Professional development and progression opportunities
- A supportive and collaborative working environment
