A Top 15 accountancy firm is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Investigations Manager to join its growing Birmingham team. This is a technically focused opportunity for a Tax Investigations professional looking to work on a varied portfolio of complex HMRC matters, with strong exposure to both clients and HMRC.

The Role

  • You will work across a broad range of tax investigations, taking responsibility for cases from initial enquiry through to resolution.
  • Key areas will include:
    • HMRC tax investigations and enquiries
    • COP8 & COP9 investigations
    • Worldwide Disclosure Facility (WDF)
    • Voluntary disclosures and negotiated settlements
    • High-value and technically complex investigations
    • Deliberate behaviour and suspected tax irregularities
    • Income Tax, CGT, Corporation Tax and PAYE matters
    • Reviewing financial information and identifying potential tax liabilities
    • Preparing technical submissions and correspondence to HMRC
    • Managing settlement negotiations and challenging HMRC positions
    • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the team

About You

  • We're looking for someone with:
  • Proven experience within Tax Investigations
  • Strong experience dealing directly with HMRC
  • Experience managing investigations from opening through to settlement
  • COP8 and COP9 experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of HMRC investigation processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing client relationships and/or junior team members
  • Previous HMRC experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
