We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Investigations Manager to join a client of ours in their London-based tax disputes and compliance function. This is a senior-level role focused on managing complex tax investigations, supporting resolution of disputes with HMRC, and providing high-quality technical and strategic tax advice. The role operates on a hybrid working model, combining office presence in London with flexible remote working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex tax investigation cases from initial enquiry through to resolution
  • Advise on HMRC enquiries, disclosures (including COP8/COP9), and settlement strategy
  • Prepare and review detailed technical submissions, disclosures, and correspondence to tax authorities
  • Manage relationships with HMRC and act as the main point of contact during investigations
  • Analyse complex tax issues across corporation tax, income tax, VAT, and offshore structures
  • Identify tax risks and recommend mitigation strategies and compliance improvements
  • Support dispute resolution processes, including ADR and tribunal preparation where required
  • Oversee and mentor junior team members within the tax investigations function
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes and risk frameworks

Requirements

  • Significant experience in tax investigations, tax disputes, or tax controversy work
  • Strong understanding of UK tax legislation and HMRC enquiry procedures
  • Experience handling complex or high-value cases (corporate, HNW, or cross-border)
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and report‑writing skills
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships under pressure
  • Background in accountancy practice, tax advisory, or HMRC highly desirable
  • Experience with offshore disclosures and complex structuring issues
  • Exposure to tribunal work or tax litigation
  • Understanding of fraud‑related tax investigations
  • Strong commercial awareness and advisory mindset
