The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on complex HMRC disputes while playing a key role in developing client relationships, generating new opportunities, and winning business. The firm works with a broad range of clients, including high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, business owners, and professional advisers, providing specialist advice on complex tax investigations, disputes, and negotiations with HMRC. This role would suit an ambitious senior tax professional who is looking for the autonomy and influence of a boutique environment, where they can shape strategy, strengthen market presence, and make a meaningful contribution to the firm's growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading complex UK tax disputes and HMRC investigations, including COP8 and COP9 matters.
  • Providing strategic advice to clients on contentious tax issues, investigation strategy, risk management, and resolution.
  • Managing sensitive and technically complex cases through to successful outcomes.
  • Building trusted relationships with clients, accountants, lawyers, wealth advisers, and other professional intermediaries.
  • Identifying and converting new business opportunities through networking, referrals, and market engagement.
  • Developing and expanding the firm's tax disputes offering and market profile.
  • Representing the firm externally and contributing to thought leadership and business development initiatives.
  • Supporting and mentoring colleagues while contributing to the wider direction of the practice.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Significant experience in UK tax disputes, investigations, and HMRC enquiry work.
  • Proven experience handling COP8 and COP9 investigations.
  • Strong technical understanding of HMRC enquiry procedures, disclosures, settlements, penalties, and dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrable commercial ability with a track record of developing relationships and winning new work.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to advise senior clients on complex tax matters.
  • A confident and credible presence in the market.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience with HMRC, particularly within Specialist Investigations, Fraud Investigation Service (FIS), or other senior compliance roles, would be highly desirable but is not essential.
  • An established network across the tax, legal, accountancy, and professional services markets.
  • CTA, ACA, or equivalent professional qualification would be advantageous.

The Opportunity:

  • A genuine leadership role with influence over the future growth of the practice.
  • The autonomy to develop relationships and bring in new business.
  • Exposure to complex, high-value tax dispute matters.
  • Direct access to senior decision-makers and clients.
  • A flexible hybrid working environment.
  • The opportunity to build your reputation within a specialist advisory firm.
