Tax Disputes Director to join its growing leadership team. This is a senior opportunity for an established tax disputes professional who combines strong technical expertise with a proven ability to win new business, develop client relationships, and grow a specialist tax disputes offering .

The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing complex HMRC enquiries and disputes, including

COP8 and COP9 investigations , alongside the commercial ability and network to generate new opportunities, build referral relationships, and bring in work.

This role would suit a senior tax disputes specialist looking for a platform where they can have genuine influence, shape strategy, and play a key role in the continued growth of a boutique firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading complex HMRC tax disputes and investigations, including COP8 and COP9 matters.
  • Providing strategic advice to high-net-worth individuals, business owners, and professional advisers.
  • Managing client relationships and acting as a trusted adviser on contentious tax matters.
  • Developing and executing business development strategies to identify and win new opportunities.
  • Building strong referral networks with accountants, lawyers, wealth advisers, and other professional intermediaries.
  • Converting opportunities into new client engagements and contributing directly to revenue growth.
  • Representing the firm externally through networking, events, and industry engagement.
  • Supporting the development of the wider tax disputes team and service offering.
  • Working closely with senior leadership to shape the future direction of the practice.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • Significant experience in UK tax disputes and HMRC investigations.

Essential: Strong COP8 and COP9 experience.

  • Proven track record of managing complex tax dispute matters and achieving successful outcomes.
  • Strong commercial mindset with evidence of winning and developing client relationships.
  • Ability to generate new business through networks, referrals, and market presence.
  • Excellent communication skills with the credibility to engage senior clients and professional advisers.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous HMRC experience, particularly within Specialist Investigations, Fraud Investigation Service (FIS), or senior compliance roles, would be highly desirable but is not essential.
  • Existing network within the tax, legal, accountancy, and professional services markets.
  • CTA, ACA, or equivalent professional qualification would be advantageous.
