Maidstone, Kent | £Competitive + Benefits | Permanent
The Opportunity
We're working with a well-established accountancy practice in Maidstone who are looking to bring in an experienced Tax Manager to join their growing team. This is a genuinely varied role where you'll be working across both private client and corporate tax, managing your own portfolio whilst getting involved in advisory work and business development. If you're at that point where you want more than just compliance work and are looking for a role that actually stretches you across different areas of tax, this could be a really good fit.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing a mixed portfolio of private clients (sole traders, owner‑managed businesses, high net worth individuals, trusts) and getting stuck into advisory projects alongside the compliance side of things.
- There's scope to get involved in tax planning, structuring work and business development initiatives, so it's not just about churning through returns.
- Day to day, you'll be:
- Managing private client tax compliance (self‑assessment, trust returns, liaising with HMRC)
- Leading on advisory projects for both private clients and corporate clients
- Reviewing work prepared by junior team members
- Building and maintaining client relationships
- Identifying opportunities to take additional services to clients
- Working closely with partners and other departments across the firm
What We're Looking For in the Mixed Tax Manager
- You’ll need to be ACA/CTA qualified (or equivalent) with solid experience in both compliance and advisory work.
- Ideally, you’ve worked in practice before and have experience managing your own portfolio of clients.
- Proven experience in private client and/or corporate tax
- Strong technical knowledge across compliance and advisory
- Ability to manage client relationships and work autonomously
- Commercial awareness and a proactive approach
- Trust taxation experience (though not essential)
- Experience managing and reviewing junior team members
- Track record in business development or identifying new opportunities
What's On Offer
This accountancy firm offers genuine flexibility around working arrangements, strong progression opportunities, and a collaborative team environment. You’ll be working in their Maidstone office with hybrid working available as Mixed Tax Manager. They're looking for someone who wants variety in their work and is happy to be challenged rather than sitting in a purely routine compliance role. If you’re keen to develop across different tax areas and build client relationships whilst working with a supportive team, this is worth a conversation.
