A successful independent firm is looking for a Senior Accountant as part of a wider investment into its future leadership team. This is an established, profitable business rather than a start-up dressed in expensive language about "growth". It already has strong clients, experienced people and excellent staff retention. The investment now is about adding capacity and making sure there is a proper succession plan beneath the existing leadership team.
Based in Cardiff, you'll work with entrepreneurial businesses ranging from start-ups through to established owner-managed companies.
The Senior Accountant will have considerably more client exposure than a traditional accounts-production position. You'll be involved in:
- Preparing statutory accounts and associated working papers
- Reviewing straightforward accounts prepared by junior colleagues
- Managing jobs and keeping clients updated
- Handling day-to-day accounting queries
- Supporting year-end tax work
- Attending meetings with business owners
- Developing an understanding of clients beyond their year-end numbers
- Supporting Managers across larger portfolios
- Taking increasing ownership as your experience develops
Hybrid working forms part of the proposition, while maintaining the regular face-to-face contact that has helped the firm build particularly strong client relationships.
What they're looking for:
- You’ll need recent experience within a UK firm and a solid grounding in accounts preparation.
- You may already be ACA or ACCA qualified, approaching qualification or have developed equivalent experience without following the traditional qualification route.
- More important is the ability to communicate properly with clients. The firm wants someone who can eventually sit opposite a business owner, understand the issue they are raising and explain the answer without disappearing behind technical jargon.
What's on offer:
- £52,000-£62,000
- Clear progression into client management
- Broad owner-managed business exposure
- Increasing portfolio responsibility
- Support from experienced senior professionals
- Strong client-facing development
- Highly profitable independent business
- Genuine long-term career opportunity
For an ambitious Senior Accountant looking for more than another year of producing accounts, this is a chance to join a progressive Cardiff firm at a point where growth and succession are creating real opportunities.
