If you’re eager to apply your knowledge in the field, develop specialist expertise and work directly with clients on innovative heat network projects, this role gives you the perfect platform to grow.

This is a field‑based, client‑facing position where you’ll gain exposure to the full lifecycle of heat network metering, from early scoping and technical surveys through to installation oversight, compliance assurance and ongoing system optimisation.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You’ll become a trusted technical specialist, supporting the compliant and efficient delivery of metering systems across communal and district heat networks.
  • Your work will directly support regulatory frameworks such as the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations and the upcoming HNTAS scheme.
  • Your responsibilities will include:
    • Technical audits: Assessing metering systems, accuracy classes and compliance with UK billing regulations.
    • RF & communication surveys: Carrying out LoRaWAN signal surveys, validating connectivity and producing coverage heatmaps.
    • Scoping & design assessments: Reviewing HIU layouts, riser structures and plant rooms to define metering solutions.
    • Project planning: Supporting installation teams with technical briefs, diagrams and commissioning checks.
    • Equipment specification: Selecting heat meters, gateways and controllers that meet compliance and integration standards.
    • Quality assurance: Validating live systems, monitoring meter health and supporting remediation actions.
    • Client engagement: Representing Insite during site visits, consultations and technical discussions.

Working Hours & Location:

  • 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday.
  • UK-wide travel with regular site-based work in London and major cities.
  • Hybrid working (London or Peterborough office + home working). Occasional overnight stays depending on project locations.

You’ll gain:

  • Structured development in a niche, fast‑growing sector of the energy industry.
  • Hands‑on field experience across London and major UK cities.
  • Exposure to cutting‑edge technologies including LoRaWAN, M‑Bus and smart metering platforms.
  • Mentoring and opportunities to build specialist expertise.
  • A hybrid working model that balances site work, office collaboration and home‑based reporting.

What You’ll Bring:

We’re looking for someone who is analytical, proactive and eager to learn. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy solving technical problems and communicating clearly with clients and colleagues.

Essential:

  • Engineering degree (BEng/BSc) or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical or building services.
  • Ability to produce clear technical reports and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in client‑facing situations.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Understanding of heat network regulations, Ofgem requirements or HNTAS.
  • Familiarity with LoRaWAN, M‑Bus, or smart metering systems.
  • Experience with technical audits, CAD outputs or wireless diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of heat meter types and configurations.

Why this role?

If you’re excited by the idea of combining technical fieldwork, regulatory insight and hands‑on engineering, while helping shape the future of sustainable heat networks, we’d love to hear from you.

Benefits:

  • Holiday Allowance: 26 days of holiday per year (including birthday leave) plus English bank and public holidays, plus an additional day of Birthday leave.
  • Pension Scheme: Employer pension contribution matched at 4%.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP): Free, confidential support available for personal and professional challenges.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme: "DO RIGHT WITH INSITE" provides up to 2 paid days off per year for volunteering with company-led initiatives.
