The Level 3 Apprentice – Plumbing and Heating Technician will support the Field Engineering team in the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and heating systems associated with communal and district heat networks. The role combines practical on‑site work with structured off‑the‑job training to achieve the Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. Most of the apprenticeship is spent working, you’ll learn on the job by getting hands‑on experience.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance
    • Assist in the installation of heat interface units (HIUs), pipework, radiators, valves, and associated controls within residential properties.
    • Support routine and reactive maintenance tasks in relation to heat network systems.
    • Contribute to commissioning and testing of plumbing and heating installations.
  • Technical Support
    • Aid in the diagnosis and rectification of faults in customer and network‑side heating systems.
    • Follow technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturers’ specifications under supervision.
    • Record and report technical issues encountered during site work.
  • Compliance and Safety
    • Work in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, company policies, and risk assessments.
    • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistent service delivery and safety standards.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Learning and Development
    • Attend all scheduled off‑the‑job training as part of the apprenticeship programme.
    • Complete all required coursework and assessments to achieve the Level 3 apprenticeship standard.
    • Engage with mentors and supervisors to develop technical and professional skills.
  • Customer Interaction
    • Interact professionally with residents, clients, and site personnel during on‑site activities.
    • Represent the company in a courteous and responsible manner.

Location and Working Hours

  • 4 days on‑the‑job working + 1 day at college per week.
  • 30‑minute lunch break & two 15‑minute breaks (unpaid) during each working day.
  • Office location: Moorgate, London (WeWork)
  • College: Westminster College, London
  • Field‑based role with travel to customer properties.
  • Manual handling and physical tasks required.

Required Skills And Attributes

  • Minimum GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Interest in plumbing, mechanical systems, and low‑carbon technologies.
  • Ability to follow instructions and learn new technical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel between multiple work sites and training locations.
