About the role
Insite Energy is a fast‑growing, forward‑thinking utility services provider specialising in metering, billing, payments, and site management for district heating and heat network schemes across the UK. As demand for sustainable energy solutions continues to rise, we are expanding our expert Field Operations team and are looking for an experienced Commercial Pipefitter to play a key role in delivering high‑quality mechanical installations across our portfolio.
This senior, field‑based position is ideal for a highly competent and self‑sufficient engineer with strong experience in commercial pipework systems, spanning steel, copper, and plastic installations across medium and large‑diameter systems. You’ll take full ownership of mechanical installation projects from initial site assessment through to installation, testing, commissioning support, documentation, and final handover.
You’ll be at the forefront of maintaining exceptional standards of workmanship, safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction across district heating plant rooms, metering infrastructure, and wider energy network projects. Location and working hours
- Full‑time position (37.5 hours per week).
- Field‑based role working across commercial and residential sites throughout the UK.
- Working hours may be scheduled anytime between 08:00 and 20:00 depending on operational requirements.
Required skills and attributes
- Strong commercial pipefitting and mechanical installation experience.
- Proven experience working on commercial heating, LTHW, CHW, or district heating systems.
- Strong experience working on medium and large diameter commercial pipework systems.
- Experience working with multiple pipe materials including steel, copper, and plastic systems.
- Competent in multiple jointing methods including press‑fit, threaded, soldered, and flanged systems.
- Welding experience desirable.
- Ability to safely manage and coordinate welding activities essential.
- Experience planning and managing large‑scale drain downs and system isolations.
- Strong understanding of commercial mechanical systems and plant room environments.
- Ability to independently scope and specify requirements for commercial mechanical works.
- Experience producing professional technical reports and scope documentation.
- Heat meter installation experience highly advantageous, particularly DN100 flanged meter.
- Knowledge of heat meter commissioning and communications systems advantageous.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving capability.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within commercial mechanical environments.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing & Heating or Mechanical Engineering desirable.
- CSCS card essential (or ability to obtain).
- IPAF/PASMA advantageous.
- Hot Works training advantageous.
- Health & Safety qualification desirable.
- Full UK driving licence essential.
