About the role
As Trainee HIU Engineer you’ll support the installation, maintenance, and effective operation of heat network equipment (HIU’s, Valves, Meters, PAYG devices & metering systems) deployed within our client’s developments and their customers’ homes.
Much of this role includes working in the built environment on multi- million-pound construction schemes and in people’s homes.
Training and development opportunities available to progress to Field Technical Engineer.
Specific responsibilities include
• Heat Interface Unit (HIU) replacement, maintenance, and servicing (mainly in occupied homes).
• Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) maintenance and servicing.
• Fan Coil Unit (FCU) and cooling meter replacement, maintenance, and servicing.
• In property Heat and Cooling Meter servicing and Verifications.
• Problem solving and fault- finding issues on site and liaising with other trades and the main contractor.
• Liaise with & report to site staff (clients, principal contractors, consultants & heating / plumbing sub- contractors)
• Installation and maintenance of in property heating and cooling controls.
Support on-going Customer Services:
• Carry out post-installation upgrade / maintenance programmes on Insite equipment installed in residential properties, plant rooms and communal areas.
• Interaction with clients & customers on site at developments, representing Insite Energy in sometimes difficult situations where clients & residents may be unhappy to be without utilities due to faults.
• Maintaining personal equipment & stock of spares/consumables to a level ensuring continuity of service.
Location and working hours:
- Full-time position (37.5 hours per week).
- 7.5 hours per day between 08:00 and 20:00 – Monday to Friday.
- 1 hour unpaid lunch break each day.
- Primarily field based across London, with occasional UK wide travel requiring overnight stays.
Required skills and attributes:
- Minimum qualification of NVQ level 2, or equivalent, in plumbing and heating.
- Full driving licence essential, with no or low penalty points.
- Positive attitude towards providing customer service excellence in all aspects of work.
- Happy to work as an individual but contribute to the team goals, ethos and share best practice.

- Salary: £28,000 rising to £33,000 on completion of training
