We’re seeking a Lead CNC Machinist to take ownership of 5 Axis machining operations, producing high-precision, low-volume components used in critical maritime systems. This is a hands-on role with real influence over process improvement, quality, and team development.
Responsibilities:
- Machine components on 5-axis CNC machining centres
- Create, edit, and optimise CNC programmes from engineering drawings
- Lead programme improvements to enhance quality and reduce cycle times
- Carry out set-ups, tooling, and fixturing activities
- Perform prove-outs and first-off inspections
- Conduct measurement and quality checks to ensure specification compliance
- Handle materials using lifting equipment (slings / overhead cranes)
- Support and train other operators
- Follow all health & safety procedures at all times
Requirements:
- HNC / HND qualified (or equivalent)
- Experience operating Mazak 5-axis CNC machines
- Ability to create and edit programmes using Mazatrol
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings
- Confident using measuring equipment (verniers, micrometers, probes)
- Experience setting and machining castings (dial indicators & probes)
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures
- Experience with manual handling, slinging, and overhead cranes
- Ability to train and support other machinists
