A Quality Control Inspector makes the final confirmation when it comes to the quality of a product. They are also responsible for testing components that are used in the manufacture of a finished product. A Quality Control Inspector uses various measuring tools to ensure parts conform to standard requirements. They examine raw materials and make sure that manufacturing results meet internal standards for production. The Quality Control Inspector also monitors the production-line cycle and shares findings with relevant stakeholders. The main task of the Quality Control Inspector is to prevent errors from occurring within the manufacturing process. A Quality Control Inspector ensures that production standards are met and maintained for a given product before it leaves the place it’s manufactured in. They perform inspections on random samples from production, identify defects in the manufacturing process and correct them. The Quality Control Inspector organises inspections according to internal and legal standards. It is their job to ensure that a quality product is delivered for consumers.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Inspection: Perform visual, physical, and functional inspections of raw materials, in-process components, and finished products.
  • Measurement: Use precision tools such as micrometers, verniers, height gauges, shadow graphs and CMMs to verify dimensions against engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to ISO 9001, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), or industry-specific standards e.g., AS9100 for aerospace. Including all standards, internal policies, procedures and legal regulations that apply to the finished product.
  • Documentation: Record inspection results, maintain accurate logs, and prepare non-conformance reports for rejected items.
  • Problem Solving: Collaborate with production teams to identify root causes of defects and suggest process improvements, questioning the nature of defects while providing future solutions.
  • Calibration: Control, maintain and calibrate inspection equipment to ensure usage logs are documented and accuracy is maintained.
