The Business Intelligence team provides a broad range of services to support the achievement of defined objectives including value-added business intelligence to support decision making, business continuity and risk management globally. In addition, the Business Intelligence team works closely with end-users to define business needs and requirements and to perform data validation which supports the identification of new clients.

The Data Engineer is responsible for building intelligent reporting solutions utilizing the most cutting-edge cloud technologies for data movement and assembly. This role will engage with requestors of reporting to refine requirements, build out views for reporting, identify and drive automation of reporting solutions and support in testing the outputs. The role will work closely with cross team stakeholders including architects, data integration and IT delivery teams, whilst supporting the Associate Data Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in a collaborative and agile manner to deliver a solution which adds value and purpose to the business.
  • Refine moderate to complex requirements submitted for reporting demands, working with functional stakeholders and cross functional team members to ensure data and data structure allows for effective and accurate reporting.
  • Design, build, test and train users on the solution to ensure once in production it can be effectively used and understood.
  • Follow best practice guidance to designing and implementing a solution, from requirements receipt to end solution release.
  • Follow agile methodology to deliver a solution iteratively and at pace.
  • Support associate engineers to grow and develop their skills and experience in data intelligence.
  • Identify and recommend improvements for the team internally to expand on automation and increase effectiveness of the team.

  • Deliver solutions for moderate to complex reporting needs.
  • Level of effort required to implement solution vs result delivered.
  • Accurate documentation, following guidance and standards, available for future accessibility.
  • Identifies improvements to enhance the team processes and effectiveness.
  • Proposals to Lead engineers resulting in success/implementation/change.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient experience in three or more of the following cloud technologies: Databricks, Azure: Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Warehouse and Azure Data Factory, or like cloud technologies: AWS or GCP.
  • Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure qualification or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge and practice of Python, SQL or R.
  • Experience in scripting ETL solutions using one of the following: Python, Java, PowerShell.
  • Proficient in Self-Service Visualisation BI Tools: Power BI or like technologies such as: Qlik, Tableau, Spotfire.
  • Understanding and practice of Agile Methodology / Jira / Confluence.
  • Data Modelling, CI/CD Pipeline Creation.
  • Ability to interpret and analyse business and technical reports in addition to writing and presenting information to senior stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to highlight trends and detect financial inconsistencies when analysing and summarising detailed financial information.
  • Educated to degree level or can demonstrate equivalent work experience.
  • A confident, outward-looking, proactive communicator.
  • High level of written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently to deliver a common goal or objective and work across team boundaries to build and strengthen working relationships.
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word) including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to analyse complex and diverse information and from that make clear and effective presentations and reports.
  • Experience of working within a high performing team within a fast-paced, target driven environment.
  • Team Communication, Ability to present complex ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to identify and implement effective systems to monitor performance.
  • Holds relevant professional Project Management qualification, accreditation, or certification (such as PRINCE2, PMI).
