Are you a detail-driven Design Engineer looking to develop your career in a modern manufacturing environment? This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing engineering team at a well-established UK manufacturer, working at the forefront of advanced production and product development.

You’ll play a key role in supporting engineering design activities across a range of manufacturing technologies, contributing to both new product development and continuous improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings
  • Support the design of components, tooling, and production equipment
  • Produce clear and accurate manufacturing documentation
  • Manage drawing revisions and engineering data within PDM systems
  • Assist with design updates and modifications to support production improvements
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams
About You
  • Qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience using 3D CAD software
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate technical drawings
  • Organised and methodical approach to work

Primary Objective of role: To take a hands-on role in the development, control and improvement of engineering designs, 3D models, drawings and technical documentation used throughout the business, while also supporting wider production engineering and manufacturing improvement activities.

Key responsibilities:
  • Create, develop and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and associated technical documentation using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Lead or support the design and development of components, tooling and production equipment to meet operational and manufacturing requirements.
  • Produce accurate and well-structured manufacturing drawings and technical documentation for internal and external use.
  • Maintain engineering data, drawing revisions and file structures within Autodesk Vault or equivalent controlled systems.
  • Identify and implement drawing updates and design changes to support manufacturing performance, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Support production engineering activities including tooling layouts, component modifications, equipment improvements and technical problem-solving.
  • Work closely with engineering, production and maintenance teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and aligned with shop-floor needs.
  • Contribute to technical investigations, root-cause analysis and engineering improvement activities.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of drawing standards, design practices, engineering documentation and change control processes.
  • Apply sound engineering judgement when evaluating design options, manufacturability and practical implementation.
Key performance Measures:
  • Quality, accuracy and completeness of engineering drawings, models and technical documentation produced.
  • Timely delivery of design work and drawing updates in line with agreed project or operational priorities.
  • Effectiveness of engineering data and drawing revision control within the business’s document systems.
  • Practicality, manufacturability and technical robustness of design solutions released to production.
  • Contribution to production engineering improvements, problem-solving and engineering standardisation.
  • Positive cross-functional working relationships with engineering, production and maintenance stakeholders.
Limits of Authority:
  • May prepare, develop and amend CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documents within approved engineering control processes.
  • May recommend design changes, engineering improvements and technical solutions for review and approval.
  • Does not hold final approval authority for major design releases, capital expenditure decisions or formally controlled changes unless specifically delegated.

The role requires close collaboration with engineering, production and maintenance teams and is intended to support both day-to-day operational needs and broader engineering improvement initiatives.
