Insight Global are seeking a Senior Principal Scientist (Respiratory Biology) for a leading global pharmaceutical organisation specialising in innovative drug discovery. This position requires 5 days onsite in Stevenage, UK for a 10 month contract (Inside IR35 status). As part of the Early Drug Discovery function, this role supports biology initiatives across programmes from concept through to early clinical development. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing respiratory disease research, contributing to target discovery, validation, and mechanistic understanding to strengthen the organisation’s respiratory portfolio. In this highly collaborative, lab-based role, you will work cross-functionally with discovery, chemistry, data, and strategic teams to drive biological innovation and inform programme direction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and advance respiratory-focused biological platforms and analytical technologies
- Design, execute, and troubleshoot complex in-vitro and ex-vivo assays, including novel assay systems
- Conduct mechanistic biology studies to determine how targets influence disease pathology
- Perform target validation using cellular and molecular approaches
- Integrate biological insights from literature, screening data, and multi-modal datasets
- Contribute to strategic decisions by delivering high-quality experimental data and scientific insight
Must-Have Requirements Include:
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, or a related discipline
- Strong background in respiratory diseases (e.g. fibrosis, IPF, ILD, or related areas)
- Postdoctoral experience, ideally within biotech or pharmaceutical environments
- Deep expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, including assay development
- Proven ability to independently design, execute, and troubleshoot complex experiments
- Experience in target identification, validation, or mechanism-of-action studies
- Strong capability in analysing and integrating large biological datasets
- Excellent collaboration skills across cross-functional research teams
- Strong understanding of disease biology and how targets influence disease pathways
