King's Facilities Management (KFM) is recruiting four Senior Category Managers to join its growing procurement function:
- Two Senior Category Managers – Clinical Procurement
- Two Senior Category Managers – Corporate & Capital Procurement
KFM is owned by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and provides specialist procurement, supply-chain, equipment and healthcare support services.
Its profits and cost savings are reinvested into the NHS, meaning the value delivered by its procurement teams supports the delivery of patient care.
The opportunity
As a Senior Category Manager, you will lead a procurement category or portfolio with an annual expenditure of approximately £20 million to £30 million.
You will develop and implement category strategies, lead complex strategic sourcing and tendering programmes, negotiate high-value contracts and improve supplier performance.
Working with senior stakeholders, procurement partners and suppliers, you will identify opportunities to deliver savings, innovation, sustainable solutions and improved value.
You will also provide leadership and support to procurement colleagues, helping to build capability and create a collaborative, high-performing team.
Clinical Procurement
Within Clinical Procurement, you will work closely with clinicians, operational teams and other healthcare stakeholders to understand how products and equipment are used.
You will translate clinical requirements into effective procurement, contract and supply-chain solutions, supporting product standardisation, value for money and continuity of supply.
You may also support clinical trials and product evaluations, helping colleagues assess new products, services and medical equipment.
Corporate & Capital Procurement
Within Corporate & Capital Procurement, you will lead procurement activity across a varied portfolio of goods and services.
You will develop commercially effective category strategies, manage end-to-end procurement processes and deliver complex tenders and contract negotiations.
You will work with stakeholders across KFM and King's College Hospital, improving supplier relationships while supporting efficiency, sustainability, social value and procurement compliance.
Your responsibilities will include
- Developing and delivering category management strategies.
- Leading complex, high-value procurement and strategic sourcing projects.
- Managing competitive tenders from initial scoping through to contract award.
- Negotiating contracts and providing commercial and contractual advice.
- Delivering measurable procurement savings and added value.
- Conducting market analysis and identifying new supplier opportunities.
- Managing contracts, supplier relationships, service levels and performance.
- Working with senior stakeholders to develop clear specifications and sourcing plans.
- Supporting procurement compliance, governance and risk management.
- Coaching, guiding and developing procurement colleagues.
You will be an accomplished procurement professional with substantial experience in category management, contract management, strategic sourcing and supplier relationship management.
You should be able to demonstrate
- A strong record of delivering complex, high-value procurement projects.
- Experience of competitive tendering and contract negotiation.
- Evidence of delivering significant savings and commercial improvements.
- The ability to develop and implement procurement category strategies.
- Strong commercial judgement and financial awareness.
- Experience of influencing senior stakeholders and building collaborative relationships.
- The confidence to manage suppliers and handle challenging negotiations.
- Strong project management, analytical and communication skills.
- MCIPS, or an equivalent level of professional procurement experience.
Experience within NHS procurement, healthcare procurement or wider public-sector procurement would be valuable.
However, KFM also welcomes candidates from other complex, regulated organisations who can demonstrate relevant category management and commercial procurement expertise.
Why join KFM?
You will join a supportive and collaborative procurement team where you can take ownership of significant categories, develop your professional expertise and see the wider value created by your work.
Alongside a salary of £66,300 - £71,300 the roles offer an annual bonus opportunity of up to 12%, professional development and CPD support, access to employee discounts and a range of salary-sacrifice benefits.
