My client is a global trading and investment company with a strong presence in metals markets. The Precious Metals Department in London is a team of 8, covering trading, marketing, settlement, logistics, and market information services—working across gold, silver, and platinum group metals.

This is a unique opportunity: a hybrid role designed for an experienced Metals Operator ready to step into customer-facing marketing and business development, while leveraging deep operational expertise.

THE ROLE

  • Manage a portfolio of assigned precious metals customers in the EMEA region, developing and expanding business relationships whilst maintaining the operational rigour you know well.
  • 70% – Marketing & Business Development
    • Manage and grow an assigned customer portfolio in precious metals.
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with departmental strategy.
    • Serve as the primary customer contact, handling relationship management and deal development.
    • Provide marketing support across the team when required.
    • Exercise sound commercial judgement on business decisions.
  • 30% – Operations, Trading Support & Internal Liaison (Your Competitive Edge)
    • Ensure all customer business is booked correctly and administered efficiently.
    • Coordinate with traders, middle, and back-office teams on logistics, settlement, and documentation.
    • Leverage your knowledge of transportation, assay coordination, customs clearance, and documentation to anticipate customer needs and add value.
    • Act as the critical bridge between customers' operational requirements and internal trading/operations teams.
    • Provide back-up coverage to senior traders as required.
    • Maintain market data and customer databases.
    • Collaborate with precious metals desks across global offices.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal control standards.

REQUIRED SKILLS & BACKGROUND

  • Essential
    • Proven metals operations experience—particularly in precious metals, physical business, logistics, and contract administration.
    • Strong knowledge of precious metals market fundamentals (gold, silver, PGMs, leasing, swaps, physical trading).
    • Track record of negotiating with suppliers and logistics providers—you know how to secure value.
    • Excellent attention to detail; comfortable managing multiple counterparties and deadlines.
    • Strong written and spoken English.
    • Degree-level education (or equivalent).
    • Flexible, responsive to business needs, able to perform under pressure.
  • Highly Valued
    • Existing relationships with precious metals customers or logistics partners (EMEA-focused).
    • Experience liaising with external counterparties on complex transactions.
    • Familiarity with invoicing, payment control, FX administration, and reconciliation.
    • Willingness to step into trading support as required.
