A well established and respected manufacturing business is looking to recruit a Manufacturing Manager/Team Leader to bolster their highly skilled and capable workforce. The position is a permanent role from day one, subject to interview process. 39 hours per week day shift, Monday to Friday. This is a boots on ground role, with no remote working. The team leader role is non-producing and is purely in position as a cell leader to manage day to day operations within their area of responsibility.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the internal customer (Manufacturing Manager) by aligning with shared agreed objectives on EHS, Quality, Cost and Delivery and participating in the Operational Control model.
- Responsible for conducting the designated daily departmental walk the floor routine, engage with the team and address issues promptly.
- Own the departments scheduling board and work with the production coordinator to have full control of the departments scheduling list.
- Conduct daily Hazard Spotting to achieve set targets and maintain a safe working environment.
- Analyse Key Performance Indicators and data collection systems to drive improvement and present the results in the format of SQCDP metrics in the Daily Ops Meeting.
- Monitor team performance, deliver real-time feedback, and facilitate skill development and coaching.
- Participate in the Daily Operations meeting, taking ownership of problems assigned for resolution.
- Contribute to the delivery of the EHS Model, by leading in Job Safety Observations and providing technical/process solutions to EHS problems where appropriate.
- Apply problem-solving methodologies to define and problem solve at root cause as a method of improving operational performance, in particular on process capability and quality problems.
- Support the Manufacturing Manager through day-to-day supervision of team members.
- Ensure adherence to work instructions and aerospace standards, and act as first point of contact for technical issues and escalate critical problems as needed.
- Maintain the capability planner monthly and organise the department effectively based on current skill levels.
General Responsibilities
- Manage throughput of work in priority order to deliver our OTIF target.
- Generate and review data to ensure planned times are accurate and that team members are completing work within time allocated and take reasonable actions where required.
- Maintain an efficient system to control the maintenance and storage / replenishment of tooling.
- Liaise with Management regarding staffing levels and workload.
- Distribution of work according to the priorities defined by the scheduling lists.
- Administration of people related procedures, including the on-time completion of recruitment, processing of man hours, absence management, performance management, onboarding, and off-boarding activities.
- Maintain clear shift communication and documentation, ensuring smooth handovers and operational continuity.
- Work alongside the Manufacturing Engineer and technicians to resolve quality issues and ensure suitable measures put in place in line with company process are applied to prevent reoccurrence.
- Oversee the technical lead is giving adequate training inline with defined training plans to employees where required.
- Work with Human Resources to sustain an ethical working environment which adheres to company policies.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- IT Skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Job-specific IT systems: Javelin Central Database.
- Supervisory / Management Experience Preferred length of experience (in years): 3 years Preferred depth of experience (size and nature of teams): 6+ direct reports.
- General Employee Competences: Problem Solving, Basic Project Management, Ability to work as part of a team.
- Academic Achievements: C or above in English and Maths at GCSE (or equivalent).
- Professional Qualifications: Completed Apprenticeship in an Engineering Discipline is essential.

- Machine Shop supervisory experience advantageous but not essential.
- Previously experience in a Production Manager role is preferred however not essential and demonstrable team leader successes would be seriously considered.
- People oriented and proven track record of managing complex situations.
