Competitive Salary
Birmingham
Are you an experienced journalist ready to lead a title at the heart of the Midlands business community? This Editor role is a rare opportunity to take editorial responsibility for a fast-paced, multi-platform business media brand where no two days are the same.
Leading a small, ambitious team including a deputy editor and working with the daily news team, you'll set the editorial direction for everything from flagship reports in Midlands Business Insider to high-profile events. As editor, you'll shape the region's number one business magazine, mentor your team, and act as the public face of Insider across the region in key Insider markets including Dealmaking, Commercial Property and Manufacturing.
You will thrive on live events, ensuring their success through meticulous project management and flawless delivery, while staying ahead of the trends and themes shaping the agenda for the magazine's respected features and events.
Central to the role is your little black book: you'll be constantly out in the market, building and expanding a network of senior business leaders who can be called on as speakers, round table guests, award judges and sources. The stronger that network, the more it feeds directly into new feature ideas, new event concepts and new revenue opportunities, so proximity to the region's key markets and decision-makers isn't a nice-to-have, it's how this role drives growth.
Insider runs a busy calendar of business events across the Midlands, and you'll play the central role in shaping them, from sourcing and selecting speakers and judging awards to leading on-stage interviews and chairing high-level round tables. You'll be trusted to make editorial calls independently while working closely with the senior leadership across the business, including sales and events colleagues, to ensure the title's commercial and editorial goals align.
We're looking for a confident, credible communicator who's comfortable in the boardroom, newsroom, and in front of an audience, with an established network of senior business relationships across the Midlands, or the drive to build one quickly and keep growing it.
An NCTJ qualification (or equivalent) is preferred, along with significant business journalism experience and proven experience managing or mentoring journalists.
No two days are the same at Insider. From writing in-depth features and chairing thought-provoking round tables, to hosting prestigious awards dinners and steering the strategic direction of the title, you'll be at the heart of a dynamic, fast-paced team and business community.
