The Opportunity
As a Network Engineer at Voop, you’ll help design, build, and operate the core network infrastructure and connectivity layer powering the world’s first child-safe mobile network. You’ll play a key role in eSIM-based connectivity, owning how devices are provisioned, activated, managed, and safeguarded at the network level. You’ll work closely with Nick Pasha-Gubbins (Co-Founder & CTO) and the engineering team on:
- Carrier-grade network architecture for Voop’s virtual mobile network
- eSIM provisioning, activation, and lifecycle management across devices
- Voice, SMS, and data routing with embedded safeguarding controls
- Secure, scalable systems operating reliably at national and global scale
- Real-world deployment, testing, and optimisation during live rollouts
From day one, you’ll work on production network systems, shaping how safety and control are enforced through connectivity itself.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Voop’s core mobile network and connectivity stack
- Own eSIM lifecycle management, including provisioning, activation, suspension, and deactivation
- Integrate with eSIM platforms (SM-DP+, SM-DS, MNO/MVNO partners)
- Support device onboarding and remote connectivity management at scale
- Work on voice, SMS, and data routing (SIP, SMS, carrier interconnects)
- Implement network-level policy enforcement and safeguarding controls
- Operate and optimise SIP and signalling infrastructure (e.g. Kamailio)
- Ensure high availability, security, and observability across network services
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning devices, eSIMs, signalling, and data paths
- Collaborate on architecture for scalability, resilience, and compliance
Current stack: Typescript, Hono, Postgres, Pulumi/SST, Docker, AWS, Kamailio, React, Kotlin Multiplatform
About you
- You have hands-on experience with mobile connectivity and eSIM-based services
- You understand eSIM provisioning flows and lifecycle management
- You’ve worked with MVNOs, mobile cores, or device connectivity platforms
- You’re comfortable debugging issues across device, network, and carrier boundaries
- You understand how network decisions affect real users and real devices
- You’re pragmatic, fast-moving, and technology-agnostic, focused on solving the right problems well.
- You care about the craft: clean architecture, reliability, and great user experience.
- You’re driven by impact: building tech that matters, not just code that works.
Bonus points
- Direct experience integrating with SM-DP+, SM-DS, or eSIM orchestration platforms
