About Voop
Awareness has never been higher about the damage smartphones can do to young people, yet almost no one is fixing it. Voop is building the world’s first safe mobile platform — a new kind of network that replaces traditional telcos and installs intelligent protection on any smartphone. By combining network-level controls, device-integrated safeguarding software, and AI-powered risk detection, Voop gives parents, carers, schools, and governments the ability to protect without over-restricting — all on the devices that children and adults already use and love. Our first product, Voop for Care, is live with leading care providers, protecting thousands of vulnerable children in the UK. Next, we’re expanding into schools and consumer markets to make digital safety the default, not the exception. Backed by leading global investors and built by a world-class team of engineers, designers, and safeguarding experts, Voop is tackling one of the defining challenges of our time: creating a safer digital future at massive scale.
Why Voop
- Mission that matters: Build technology that directly protects children and saves lives.
- Massive opportunity: A $50B+ global market for safe connectivity, with active customers and real revenue.
- World-class team: Alumni from Google, Accenture, Vodafone, Barnardo’s, and law enforcement.
- Momentum: Thousands of users onboarding, millions more in the pipeline.
- Top-tier backing: Supported by global funds committed to fixing smartphones for good.
The Opportunity
As a Network Engineer at Voop, you’ll help design, build, and operate the core network infrastructure and connectivity layer powering the world’s first child-safe mobile network. You’ll play a key role in eSIM-based connectivity, owning how devices are provisioned, activated, managed, and safeguarded at the network level. You’ll work closely with Nick Pasha-Gubbins (Co-Founder & CTO) and the engineering team on:
- Carrier-grade network architecture for Voop’s virtual mobile network
- eSIM provisioning, activation, and lifecycle management across devices
- Voice, SMS, and data routing with embedded safeguarding controls
- Secure, scalable systems operating reliably at national and global scale
- Real-world deployment, testing, and optimisation during live rollouts
From day one, you’ll work on production network systems, shaping how safety and control are enforced through connectivity itself.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate Voop’s core mobile network and connectivity stack
- Own eSIM lifecycle management, including provisioning, activation, suspension, and deactivation
- Integrate with eSIM platforms (SM-DP+, SM-DS, MNO/MVNO partners)
- Support device onboarding and remote connectivity management at scale
- Work on voice, SMS, and data routing (SIP, SMS, carrier interconnects)
- Implement network-level policy enforcement and safeguarding controls
- Operate and optimise SIP and signalling infrastructure (e.g. Kamailio)
- Ensure high availability, security, and observability across network services
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning devices, eSIMs, signalling, and data paths
- Collaborate on architecture for scalability, resilience, and compliance
Current stack: Typescript, Hono, Postgres, Pulumi/SST, Docker, AWS, Kamailio, React, Kotlin Multiplatform
About you
- You have hands-on experience with mobile connectivity and eSIM-based services
- You understand eSIM provisioning flows and lifecycle management
- You’ve worked with MVNOs, mobile cores, or device connectivity platforms
- You’re comfortable debugging issues across device, network, and carrier boundaries
- You understand how network decisions affect real users and real devices
- You’re pragmatic, fast-moving, and technology-agnostic, focused on solving the right problems well.
- You care about the craft: clean architecture, reliability, and great user experience.
- You’re driven by impact: building tech that matters, not just code that works.
Bonus points
- Direct experience integrating with SM-DP+, SM-DS, or eSIM orchestration platforms
- Experience managing large fleets of eSIM-enabled devices
- Knowledge of GSMA standards for eSIM and mobile provisioning
- Experience with MDM or device management frameworks
- Background in telco, MVNO, or mobile core environments
