In a nutshell, this is a rare opportunity to help shape an ambitious new organisation that exists to train, support and mobilise anonymous groups of senior staff from powerful industries who are working for a more just and regenerative world. You'll be one of the earliest staff members in a dedicated team and will play a key leadership role as we grow. We are looking for someone who comes with strong operational and management experience in new and growing organisations as well as the ability to represent the organisation publicly.

We are looking for someone who is entrepreneurial and wants to support our growth, is able to be a powerful spokesperson for the work, is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and is operationally very strong. It's a lot to ask but we are sure you are out there! We are open to candidates from any and all sectors, whilst understanding of major industries is a bonus. The main thing is that this feels like it could be a dream job for you.

About the role: You'll lead the development of the systems, processes and approaches we use to create safe, confidential insider movements. You will help us attract senior professionals who are loyal to their companies and their industries and also loyal citizens who are worried about the world and feel the need to 'do something'. You'll contribute to everything from the development of our methodology, to business planning, tech and systems development in a highly complex area of work. You'll also represent the voice of insiders in a range of public and private forums. This role is suited to someone who is comfortable working independently in a fast-evolving context, who combines strategic clarity with strong operational delivery, and who is motivated by the challenge of building something new. This is a hands-on role. There is no delivery team to delegate to, so comfort with rolling up your sleeves is essential.

What we're looking for: We expect you will bring 8+ years' experience across a career that covers operations, being a spokesperson and supporting the development of teams. More than your CV, we're looking for a thoughtful individual who:

  • Has experience building new initiatives
  • Is confident working in high-trust environments and supporting others to act boldly
  • Is a strong facilitator
  • Is an experienced spokesperson
  • Is tech savvy and thoughtful about use of tools that can enhance our work
  • Can work collaboratively with partners across civil society, philanthropy, business and media
  • Brings a clear-eyed view on project management — able to write clearly, distil insight, and keep things on track
  • Has a strong sense of purpose, and a belief in the role industry can play in meeting social and environmental challenges
  • Emotionally resilient and comfortable working in complex, high-trust environments — including when navigating disagreement, organisational politics, or conflicting perspectives with calm, empathy and clarity
  • Is operationally very strong and driven to improve operations and processes
  • Is committed to the development of others in their team

We are particularly interested in candidates who have had to build things with limited resources and navigate diverse stakeholder dynamics. We are open to corporate executives ready for a new challenge, management consultants looking to use their skills in a different way or charity or public sector project managers looking for a step up into Managing Director role or indeed, a seasoned MD from another organisation.

For clarity, the focus for this role will primarily be:

  • Operations: Legal, Tech, Budgeting, Recruitment
  • Staff: Supporting development, Workload management, HR operations
  • Partnerships: Representing the organisation in strategic and funding partnerships, Identifying and pursuing new opportunities
  • Spokesperson duties: Representing the work to press, partners, skeptics, politicians and others.

We're a good fit for someone who:

  • Thrives in building something new and putting systems into a start-up environment where structures are still forming
  • Is able to pick up a brief from our insiders in any industry from food, to tech to insurance to finance to advertising and represent that work publicly
  • Is motivated by long-term systems change rather than short-term outputs
  • Wants to work alongside thoughtful, values-driven collaborators
  • Understands the value of working with senior professionals in powerful industries
  • Is entrepreneurial, kind, and hardworking — someone who takes initiative, follows through, and approaches others with curiosity and respect.

We believe that it's essential to have a diverse and inclusive team to deliver this work effectively and want to make sure anyone we hire is explicitly committed to this.

Please note: If you are interested in being involved with us outside of a paid role and would like to consider contributing as an insider, please reach out to us safely via www.insidetrack.org.uk. We are running insider movements and therefore recruiting senior professionals from major companies in the fields of tech, AI, VC, food, advertising, (re-)insurance and gambling. We are also looking at building groups in different parts of finance, law, public affairs and management consultancy. Everyone involved engages as an insider, does so in a volunteer capacity.

In case you didn't notice, we are also hiring for a range of other paid roles - please see our LinkedIn page for links.

How to apply:

  • Stage 1: Applicants are requested to send a CV and short email to recruitment@insidetrack.org.uk with "Managing Director" in the subject line.
  • Stage 2: You'll be invited to submit a full cover letter and/or attend a video call interview with one of our team to discuss your application.
  • Stage 3: We will schedule a first full interview.
  • Stage 4: You'll be invited to a second interview and timed task, likely in person.

We unfortunately do not have capacity to take briefing calls ahead of applications.
