At Yorkshire Housing, it’s our aim that everyone has a place they’re proud to call home - and we know that strong governance and a healthy approach to risk are key to making that happen. That’s where you come in…. We’re looking for a Risk and Assurance Lead who’s not just great at managing risk frameworks and reporting, but who genuinely enjoys helping people understand risk and feel confident managing it.

You’ll lead the delivery of our risk management framework, making sure it’s practical, well‑used and adds real value across the business. You’ll also provide independent, objective oversight of risk and controls, helping us make good decisions for our customers, colleagues and communities. You’ll take the reins on our Internal Audit Plan, working closely with teams and partners to make sure we’re learning, improving and doing the right thing. And you’ll play a big part in building awareness and capability across Yorkshire Housing - helping colleagues feel empowered, not overwhelmed, when it comes to risk.

In this Agile Homeworking role, much of your time will be spent working from home. But you’ll need to be able to come into our Leeds workspace as and when needed for team meetings, co‑working and those moments when it’s just easier (and nicer!) to get around a table together. We believe work is something you do, not somewhere you go so if you want to work for a company who are truly flexible and where you are valued then this could be the role for you!

What will you be doing?

  • Working closely with risk owners and stakeholders to identify, assess and manage our strategic and operational risks.
  • Keeping our risk registers, policies and processes up to date, clear and useful.
  • Supporting and constructively challenging managers to make sure risk information is accurate and meaningful.
  • Producing clear, insightful risk reports for leadership teams, Committees and Boards.
  • Helping the Board and Executive Team review our risk appetite and understand where we stand.
  • Carrying out Risk Maturity assessments and supporting improvement actions.
  • Managing the internal audit programme, coordinating reviews and keeping actions on track.
  • Reporting progress on audit recommendations to the Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Delivering training and advice to help colleagues feel confident using the Risk Management Framework.
  • Managing controls assurance testing and recommending improvements where needed.
  • Facilitating risk workshops with committees and the Board.
  • Supporting business continuity planning, making sure plans are up to date, tested and fit for purpose.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll bring real, hands‑on experience in risk management - you’re not new to this, and you’re confident taking the lead on risk at an organisational level. You’re great at building relationships and working with busy directors and senior leaders, using your people skills to influence, guide and challenge in a way that feels constructive and collaborative. With a sharp eye for detail and a naturally analytical approach, you’re someone who can make sense of complex information and turn it into clear, useful insight. Most of all, you’re comfortable being the steady hand that keeps our approach to risk consistent, well‑managed and genuinely helpful for colleagues across Yorkshire Housing.

We’re also looking for:

  • Curiosity, adaptability and willingness to keep learning
  • Ability to make the most of data and tech
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities

What’s in it for you…

Salary: £41,874 per annum (35 hours/week) 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 annually) + Bank Holidays Permanent contract. We offer a reward package to suit everyone. At YH, you can claim back for prescriptions, eye tests and more with our cash plan, make the most of a variety of retail discounts and take advantage of our pension scheme where we’ll match your contributions up to 9%, just to name a few. Our people’s health and wellbeing are one of our top priorities, and you can make the most of our readily available wellbeing support package. This includes access to a library of free fitness classes, as well as an instant My GP service and free counselling sessions with a trained professional.

Now you’re really interested? At YH, we’re actively building a working environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where everyone can contribute their best work and be themselves. We believe difference is what makes us stronger and recognise the importance of our teams reflecting communities we serve, so we welcome and encourage candidates from all backgrounds for this role. We know that not all candidates will meet every single requirement. If your experience looks a little different from what we’re looking for and you think you can bring value to the role, we’d love to learn more about you so please apply!
