What the role involves
As an experienced Front End Developer, you play a key role in ensuring delivery of IOG’s web assets – a key means by which the public interact with our products and the efforts of the business as a whole. Beyond just being an efficient way of accessing information, we want our sites to represent the best in class for their design and build – a reflection of the products we create. You will join a strong team operating on a Jamstack set‑up consisting of Gatsby, GitHub and Netlify CMS. You should be well versed in these technologies as well as JavaScript, Node JS, React and GraphQL.
- Build reusable, well‑commented code and libraries for future use
- Optimize code for maximum speed and scalability
- Contribute to process, tooling and workflow improvements
- Work with marketing, design & content teams as well as product management to realise and improve upon vision for a project as it is deployed public
- Work with QA to ensure builds are compliant with agreed test cases & standards
- Implement site builds in accordance with current IOG technical stack (Next.js and headless CMS driven static site generation)
- Deliver project deliverables to agree upon deadlines
- Collaborate with the rest of the Web Development team to share best practices & assist with project delivery
- Maintain deployed assets post launch
- Use work tracking software (Jira, Slack)
Requirements
- Completion of a relevant degree such as Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Experience working in a fast‑paced environment where you regularly ship public‑facing web assets
- Experience working as part of a team, often on parts of a larger project and collaborating with others
- Expert level understanding of JavaScript
- Expert level of React and passion for the React ecosystem
- Strong knowledge of JS ecosystem, such as NPM, Node JS, and Jamstack
- Expert skills in HTML / CSS / LESS / SASS
- Well‑versed with Git workflows
- Proficient in cross‑browser and cross‑device compatibility and how to build responsive, mobile‑first layouts
- Good understanding of SEO principles
- Capable of thriving in fast‑paced, evolving environments—adept at managing shifting priorities and consistently meeting tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical team members
- Composed and focused under pressure, with a thoughtful and methodical approach to high‑stakes problem solving
- A keenness to learn and share your knowledge with the team
- Working with UX/Design teams as well as good understanding of design principles
- Basic knowledge of image and design editing tools (e.g., Sketch, Photoshop, Zeplin)
- Self‑motivated, independent thinker with a proactive approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement
