Are you an experienced transport professional ready to take the next step in your career? We are looking for a Transport Team Manager to lead our overnight transport operations at our busy Wednesbury site. You will play a key role in ensuring our parcel transport runs smoothly from coordinating collections and deliveries to managing internal and external drivers. Working closely with our Sort Centre team, you will ensure service continuity and operational excellence across both functions. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be the first point of contact for our transport team during your shift.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and deliver all scheduled transport activity, ensuring on-time performance and service levels are met.
- Lead daily driver briefings and debriefings (employed, subcontractors, and agency).
- Monitor and improve driver performance using operational data and reporting tools.
- Track and respond to national and local KPIs, implementing corrective action where needed.
- Ensure legal compliance with all transport operations and uphold Operating Licence standards.
- Promote and maintain high standards of health and safety across the site.
- Proactively manage absence, performance, and other employee relations matters, escalating when necessary.
- Investigate transport and on-site incidents thoroughly and propose follow-up actions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal teams.
- Collaborate closely with the Sort Centre team to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
- Contribute to site-wide and business-wide projects.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with trade union representatives.
- Manage yard operations, ensuring smooth trailer movements and timely bay availability.
- Adapt quickly to demand changes during peak periods and special events.
- Act as deputy for the Shift Manager when required.
What We Are Looking For:
- Proven experience in transport operations.
- Working knowledge of transport management systems.
- Up-to-date knowledge of drivers' hours and working time regulations.
- Transport CPC desirable.
- Previous people management experience (desirable).
- A proactive, collaborative approach and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure.
