About the role: The Multi-Skilled Engineer involves installing, maintaining, and repairing various conveyor systems, including both mechanical and electrical components. This role requires troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of conveyor equipment. The technician also needs to be proficient in diagnosing and resolving issues, as well as documenting maintenance activities.
Location: Frobisher Way, Hatfield AL10 9TR
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off 12hr Days to Nights
Hours: 06:00-18:00 Days, 18:00-06:00 Nights
Salary: £48,405 Per Annum
What you will be doing:
- Installation and Setup: Installing, aligning, and testing new conveyor systems according to specifications, manuals, and schematics.
- Preventative Maintenance: Performing routine inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and replacements of conveyor components like belts, chains, and motors.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues within conveyor systems, including motors, gears, switches, experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics and other components.
- Emergency Response: Responding to breakdowns and emergency calls to minimize downtime and restore system functionality.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to all safety guidelines and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, safety precautions, and repairs.
- Collaboration: Working with other technicians and team members to solve complex problems and improve system efficiency.
- Monitoring and Optimization: Closely monitoring conveyor operations to identify potential issues and optimize performance.
- Inventory Management: Ensuring necessary spare parts and materials are available for maintenance and repairs.
What we need from you:

- Multi-skilled Maintenance Background: Experience in both mechanical and electrical systems, or a bias towards one area with a willingness to learn the other.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with conveyor systems, including electrical and mechanical components.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of conveyor system components, operation, and maintenance procedures. At least 3–5 years’ experience in an automated sortation or logistics environment.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to conveyor systems.
- Communication and Collaboration: Ability to communicate effectively with team members and document maintenance activities.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and working in various positions.
- Relevant Qualifications: NVQ Level 3, ONC or HNC qualification in an Engineering discipline or relevant experience.
