If so, read on, as we’re looking for a Regional Transport Manager to join our team in Hatfield! About the role: The Transport Manager holds responsibility for the management of transport operations for the site and associated out base locations ensuring agreed service levels are maintained whilst being carried out in an efficient and safe manner. You will ensure that the site runs in a cost-effective manner supporting the strategic direction of the wider business. You will lead, motivate and influence your team to provide excellent planning, ensure collaborative working with the sort operation and display a positive attitude towards driving innovation and change. You will manage a team of Shift and Team Managers, Transport Operators, Driver Trainers and in excess of 200 trailers and 50 tractor units. This will be a demanding role that will require focus and confidence when dealing with high level demands, challenging situations and stretching targets.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the effective execution of all planned schedules for the site
  • Lead all transport activities within agreed budgets effectively managing costs
  • Ensure the legal responsibilities relating to the Operating Licence are adhered to and appropriate action is taken to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Manage the transport team on a daily basis ensuring absence, performance and other ER issues are managed professionally by the transport management team, taking responsibility for cases of a serious nature and/or appeals.
  • Develop the transport team to high level of competency, identifying development and succession opportunities for team members.
  • Effectively manage supplier relationships in line with business standards
  • Lead and control contractor negotiations ensuring they remain cost effective
  • Actively seek opportunities for increasing external revenue
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, third parties and suppliers
  • Maintain a strong and effective working relationship with the trade union through communication and negotiation

What we need from you:

  • Experience in a similar leadership role is crucial but we’re every bit as interested in your ability to use your initiative to improve processes, think on your feet, lead from the front and get the best out of those around you.
  • Extensive knowledge of transport operations and management
  • Extensive knowledge of transport management systems i.e. Order management and execution packages
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety – IOSH qualification required
  • Transport CPC Holder and up to date knowledge of driver’s hours and working time regulations
  • Budget Management
  • Green Belt Six Sigma (Desirable)
  • Experienced People Manager
