Blocklayer / Bricklayer (Blockwork Specialist)

House Rebuild Project – Residential Construction

Position Type:

Self-employed / Subcontractor / Full-time (as applicable)

Job Purpose:

To carry out all aspects of blockwork construction on a residential house rebuild, including laying concrete blocks, ensuring correct alignment, levels, and compliance with the project\’s drawings and building regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set out blockwork lines using string lines, laser levels, and profiles
• Construct external and internal walls using concrete blocks, ensuring plumb, level, and alignment
• Mix or manage mortar as required (if no labourer provided)
• Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
• Build in cavity closures, wall ties, damp proof courses (DPC), and insulation as specified
• Coordinate with site manager and other trades to ensure sequencing and interface
• Cut and shape blocks using appropriate tools
• Maintain tidy and safe working area
• Ensure all work meets quality standards and Building Control requirements

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience as a blocklayer on residential or similar construction projects
• Ability to read construction drawings and set out accurately
• Skilled in building with dense concrete blocks (100mm, 140mm, etc.)
• Knowledge of cavity wall construction, DPCs, wall ties, and insulation installation
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• High attention to detail and quality of finish

Qualifications (Preferred):

• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Bricklaying (or equivalent)
• CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
• Manual Handling and Working at Heights training (preferred)

Tools & Equipment:

• Own hand tools and PPE required
• Power tools (cut-off saw, grinders, etc.) optional or can be provided by contractor
• Scaffolding and mortar materials supplied by main contractor unless otherwise agreed

Hours of Work:

8am to 4pm (8 Hours)

Job Type: Temporary
Contract length: 1 month

Pay: £20.00-£27.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
