The IT Developer is responsible for building, improving and maintaining digital products and internal systems, with a strong emphasis on front-end development. This role plays a key part in improving how customers find, engage with and choose our organisation, ensuring digital journeys are intuitive, accessible and commercially effective. It also supports internal efficiency by simplifying systems, reducing manual processes and enabling teams to work more effectively together. The role contributes directly to strengthening operational foundations, improving customer experience and supporting the delivery of a more joined-up, digitally competent organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Front-End Development
    • Develop responsive, user-friendly interfaces across the company's WordPress websites, including custom functionality and enhancements within the Elementor framework.
    • Build and maintain front-end features using modern JavaScript, HTML and CSS, ensuring compatibility with existing WordPress architecture.
    • Develop reusable components and templates to support consistency across websites and landing pages.
    • Ensure all web experiences are accessible, performant and optimised for conversion across devices.
    • Continuously improve digital journeys, particularly around lead generation and enquiry conversion.
  • Back-End Development
    • Contribute to development and maintenance of internal CRM systems built using PHP, MySQL and related technologies.
    • Build and enhance APIs and integrations between the CRM, websites and third-party services.
    • Support data flow between WordPress front-end experiences and back-end systems.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across both website and CRM environments.
  • Systems, Efficiency and Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline the existing CRM platform (PHP, MySQL, jQuery, Bootstrap).
    • Reduce manual processes through automation and better system integration.
    • Support ongoing improvement of the WordPress estate, including performance, maintainability and scalability.
    • Contribute to rationalising and simplifying the overall digital architecture.
  • Delivery and Collaboration
    • Work independently on defined features and tasks, delivering to agreed timelines.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders across teams to deliver joined-up solutions.
    • Support a “one organisation” approach by sharing knowledge and contributing across projects.
    • Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups and code reviews.
  • Quality and Continuous Improvement
    • Write clean, maintainable and testable code.
    • Follow best practices in development, testing and deployment.
    • Continuously improve ways of working, tools and code quality.
    • Contribute to a culture of ownership, accountability and improvement.

Person Specification

  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Strong front-end development skills within WordPress environments.
    • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.
    • Solid experience with PHP and MySQL, particularly in maintaining and extending existing systems.
    • Experience working with Bootstrap or similar front-end frameworks.
    • Understanding of how to integrate WordPress with back-end systems and APIs.
    • Good understanding of responsive design, accessibility and UI/UX principles.
    • Familiarity with version control (e.g. Git).
    • Understanding of performance optimisation, particularly in WordPress environments.
  • Experience
    • At least 3 years’ experience in a front-end or full stack development role.
    • Experience delivering features that improve user experience and digital journeys.
    • Experience working with modern JavaScript frameworks.
    • Experience working with WordPress, including theme or plugin customisation.
    • Experience integrating systems and working across front-end and back-end.
    • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
    • Experience working on customer-facing digital platforms.
    • Experience working on or maintaining CRM or internal business systems.
    • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).
    • Working with Elementor WordPress framework.

    • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
