My busy international clients are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Manufacturing Technologist – Welding Specialist for their large modern facility in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.

Essential Requirement

  • Significant practical and technical welding experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent demonstrable experience in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Metallurgy or a related discipline.

Ideal candidates competencies

  • Strong understanding of welding processes, process control and weld quality.
  • Technical experience in at least one of TIG, EBW, LBW or RSW.
  • Experience of welding procedure development, qualification and validation.
  • Experience of welding equipment qualification, validation and maintaining process capability.
  • Experience investigating and resolving welding defects, non-conformances and manufacturing problems.
  • Good understanding of weld metallurgy, including materials, joint design, welding parameters and resultant weld quality.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding specifications, technical standards and customer requirements.
  • Ability to independently lead and deliver technical welding work packages.
  • Aerospace experience desirable, particularly supporting Rolls-Royce and/or Pratt & Whitney requirements.
  • Experience across multiple welding technologies, particularly TIG, EBW, LBW and/or RSW advantageous.
  • Experience of automated TIG welding desirable.
  • Familiarity with aerospace materials including nickel-based superalloys, titanium alloys and steels advantageous.
  • Knowledge of relevant aerospace welding standards and customer-specific requirements, including AWS D17.1 and ISO 24394 desirable.
  • Experience within a Nadcap-accredited welding environment, including supporting Nadcap and customer audits advantageous.

Job Duties

  • Provide technical support across TIG, EBW, LBW and RSW welding processes.
  • Develop, review and maintain welding procedures, technical instructions, process controls and qualification records.
  • Support welding process and equipment qualification, validation and revalidation.
  • Support the introduction and qualification of new welding equipment and manufacturing capability.
  • Lead and support welding producibility and manufacturing development activities.
  • Provide technical leadership for welding non-conformances, investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support production in resolving welding-related technical and manufacturing challenges.
  • Support welder, welding operator, procedure and equipment qualification activities.
  • Support Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney customer requirements.
  • Support Nadcap Welding accreditation, customer audits and associated corrective actions.
  • Provide welding expertise to new product introduction, inload/offload and supplier activities.
  • Support the development of the long-term technical and equipment strategy for welding on site.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Materials & Processes, Quality, Non-Destructive Testing and production teams.

Hours of work

  • Days – 37 hours per week working Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will be based at the client's site in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, working within a leading company in the global aeronautical industry.
