Lead the Design of Mission-Critical Electronic Systems

Are you an experienced Electronics Engineer or Systems Engineer ready to take ownership of a complex, safety-critical product? We're looking for a System Design Authority to provide technical leadership for a sophisticated electronic subsystem used within advanced defence technology. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence product design, guide multidisciplinary engineering teams and become the recognised technical authority throughout the full product lifecycle.

If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges while working at the intersection of electronics, systems, software and mechanical engineering, this could be your next career move.

What You'll Be Doing

As the technical authority for a complex electronic subsystem, you'll ensure designs are technically robust, fully integrated and ready for certification and deployment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the technical development of a complex electronic subsystem throughout its lifecycle
  • Owning system architecture, design integrity and technical decision making
  • Managing technical risks, opportunities and engineering trade-offs
  • Working closely with systems, electronics, software, mechanical, safety and cyber security teams
  • Driving product evolution to meet future customer and operational requirements
  • Supporting verification, validation and certification activities
  • Reviewing and approving technical solutions, ensuring compliance with engineering standards
  • Providing technical guidance and building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting in-service reliability, product improvements and long-term engineering support

What We're Looking For

We're interested in engineers with experience in many of the following areas:

  • Technical leadership within electronics or systems engineering
  • Complex electronic equipment or subsystem design
  • Systems Engineering principles and product lifecycle management
  • Requirements engineering at system, subsystem or component level
  • Hardware and software integration
  • Verification, validation and certification activities
  • Technical risk management
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Excellent communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Experience within highly regulated engineering sectors such as defence, aerospace, automotive, rail or other safety-critical industries would be highly beneficial.

Why Apply?

This role offers far more than technical delivery. You'll become the engineering authority for a critical electronic subsystem, influencing design decisions from concept through to certification, deployment and ongoing product evolution. Working alongside experts across multiple engineering disciplines, you'll have the opportunity to shape future technology, mentor others and build your career into senior technical leadership. If you're ready to combine your electronics expertise with systems thinking and engineering leadership, we'd love to hear from you.
