Innovate UK Business Connect is on the lookout for a dynamic, personable, and results‐driven individual with a technical background in nuclear. This is a fantastic opportunity for a full‐time, permanent position within our dedicated Clean Energy and Built Environment team. We are looking for a senior leader in the nuclear sector that is passionate about supporting innovators to develop their technology.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering programmes that support the development and deployment of technologies to support UK manufacturing sectors to decarbonise. You will collaborate with colleagues across various sector teams, part of the innovation ecosystem, and share expertise across the team and organisations. You will engage with a wide array of stakeholders on a technical level from industry, research, and government, ideally bringing existing contacts. Strong organisational and project management skills are desirable.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, within IUK Business Connect, Innovate UK and relevant government departments and devolved administrations.
  • Maintain a vibrant and engaged community of UK innovators active in the nuclear sector and supply chain.
  • Identify where there are innovation opportunities across the nuclear sector, provide insight and shape future programmes of work.
  • Work directly with companies facilitating new connections and collaborations as well as providing access to funding and investment opportunities.
  • Organise key programme activities and events relevant to industry sectors or strategic technologies.
  • Connect with and maintain relationships with large organisations active in the nuclear sector.
  • Support delivery of the innovation exchange programme across multiple technical areas.
  • Deliver key business metrics as agreed with the line manager, track progress, and capture outcomes and success stories.
  • Engage with Innovate UK Business Connect to stimulate collaboration across sectors and support colleagues.
  • Undertake necessary administrative duties including the timely completion of accurate reports, KPI capture and expenses.
  • Be a senior leader within the team, supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge and developing strategic initiatives with line manager.

Skills

  • Degree level or equivalent technical background in nuclear sectors.
  • Experience in senior stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in written and verbal technical communication.
  • Existing network of contacts within nuclear sectors.
  • Experience in knowledge sharing across sectors.
  • Experience of working with innovators.
  • Demonstrably active and engaged within the innovation and sector landscape.
  • Awareness of government policies, research, and innovation strategies.
  • Experience networking across multiple technology areas.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Adaptability and openness to work in new emerging business areas and across other relevant business sectors.
  • Outcomes oriented and demonstrated delivery capability including for complex projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships.
  • Team player with good relationship building and influencing skills; enjoys working in a collaborative manner in an open, honest, and diverse environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, explaining complicated matters simply.
  • High level of IT literacy.
  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to motivate and inspire others to partner and collaborate, internally and externally.
  • Ability to look continuously for opportunities for improvement and to develop strategies for change to influence and shape the future direction of activities.
