Innovate UK Business Connect is on the lookout for a creative, personable, and results-driven individual with a technical background in low carbon energy. This is a fantastic opportunity for a full-time, permanent position within our dedicated Clean Energy and Built Environment team. We are looking for a senior leader in the renewable energy sector that is passionate about supporting innovators to develop their technology.

Our team is at the forefront of driving the UK’s Net Zero ambitions. We partner with businesses and innovators across the energy and built environment sectors, accelerating the development and deployment of cutting-edge technologies that facilitate the transition to Net Zero. We cover various technical areas, including energy systems, renewable energy generation, nuclear energy, energy distribution and storage, industrial decarbonisation, modern construction techniques, sustainable building practices, and large-scale infrastructure.

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in delivering programs that support the development and deployment of technologies that will support UK manufacturing sectors to decarbonise. We’re looking for a team player who excels in interpersonal interactions, collaborating with colleagues across various sector teams, different parts of the innovation ecosystem and is excited to share their knowledge expertise across the team and organisations. With exceptional communication skills, you should feel confident engaging with a wide array of stakeholders on a technical level from industry, research, and government, ideally bringing some existing contacts within these groups. Strong organisational abilities and project management abilities are also desirable.

The ideal candidate will possess a technical background with expertise and a network in one or more of the following areas:

  • Offshore wind
  • Onshore wind
  • Nuclear Fission
  • Fusion Energy

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, within IUK Business Connect, Innovate UK and relevant government departments and devolved administrations.
  • Maintain a vibrant and engaged community of innovators in the UK developing technology for industrial decarbonisation.
  • Identify where there are innovation opportunities across the low carbon energy theme and provide insight and shaping which is needed.
  • Work directly with companies facilitating new connections and collaborations as well as providing access to funding and investment opportunities.
  • Identify critical areas of significance for the UK economy, such as emerging technologies or innovation that can support the UK’s low carbon energy sector.
  • Organise key programme activities and events relevant to industry sectors or strategic technologies.
  • Connect with and maintain relationships with large organisations developing operations across low carbon energy.
  • Develop content for disseminating information to increase awareness and knowledge in target audiences.
  • Deliver key business metrics as agreed with the line manager, track progress, and capture outcomes and success stories.
  • Engage with Innovate UK Business Connect to stimulate collaboration across sectors and support colleagues.
  • Seek out new opportunities that can support specific projects and future initiatives.
  • Undertake necessary administrative duties including the timely completion of accurate reports, KPI capture and expenses.
  • Be a senior leader within the team, supporting colleagues, sharing knowledge and developing strategic initiatives with the line manager.

Qualifications:

  • Degree level or equivalent technical background in renewable energy or nuclear sectors.
  • Experience in senior stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in written and verbal technical communication.
  • Existing network of contacts within renewable energy or nuclear sectors.
  • Experience in knowledge sharing across sectors.
  • Experience of working with innovators.
  • Demonstrably active and engaged within the innovation and sector landscape.
  • Awareness of government policies, research, and innovation strategies.
  • Experience networking across multiple technology areas.
  • Experience in project management.

This role is Grade 4 with a salary of £50,267 to £55,000 pa, 28 days annual leave plus 10.5 bank and public holidays, Enhanced Pension Plan, Life Assurance, Employee Assistance Programme, and Opportunities for continuous professional development as part of our Talent & Development Programme.

This advert will close on Thursday 19th February. First stage interviews will be held w/c 2nd March. Second stage interviews will be held in person in our London office on Tuesday 17th March and Wednesday 18th March.
