Overview

Knowledge Transfer Adviser – Southern Counties and South London. The role supports knowledge transfer and innovation linkages between UK business and the UK research base, via promotion, brokerage, mentoring and support of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). The role is a key component of Innovate UK’s strategic relationships with the UK research base. All KTAs have both a local and national role, acting as a conduit between Innovate UK, the local research base and the national ecosystem.

We create powerful connections with business at the heart of what we do, assisting UK businesses to innovate, grow and profit from effective transfer of knowledge from the research base into business across disciplines and industries. The KTP portfolio includes technical disciplines, business and management, arts and humanities, and a diverse range of business partners across sectors including third sector and some public sector organisations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and support a portfolio of KTP projects in the designated region from inception to completion, including acting as a Monitoring Officer (MO) for Innovate UK.
  • Brokerage of new KTP projects for high growth-potential innovative businesses, by helping identify suitable research base partners (utilising the knowledge and awareness of Innovate UK Business Connect colleagues).
  • Assist suitable new Partnerships to develop high-quality projects and provide ongoing monitoring and support throughout the KTP project.
  • Identify and liaise with key innovation stakeholders within the region, leading on key place-based initiatives.
  • Create and sustain strategic relationships with senior management of university and FE College institutions in the region to increase support for business innovation.
  • Promote KTP through proactive meetings.
  • Assess and score KTP applications and participate in moderation panels.
  • Coach and mentor KTP Associates to develop leadership potential for the future.
  • Conduct project completion reviews and reporting, connecting businesses to follow-up support across the Innovate UK family and other relevant sources.
  • Engage with the local innovation ecosystem, including liaison with Innovate UK Regional Managers, local Catapult activity, Innovate UK Business Growth, Local Enterprise Networks, and other Innovate UK or Innovate UK Business Connect activities.
  • Contribute to internal communications to facilitate new innovation connections and develop case studies to evidence impact.
  • Complete reports in a timely and accurate manner within Innovate UK Business Connect and to Innovate UK.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks aligned with the job purpose and the needs of Innovate UK Business Connect.
  • Demonstrate notable business experience or business awareness and credibility with senior academics across disciplines; build and manage collaborative partnerships to deliver innovation.
  • Be located in and able to service the Southern Counties and South London region; ideally with experience mentoring early career scientists in industry or research.
  • Evidence the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver innovation outcomes.
