About the Role

Our client is seeking a Ground Investigation Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team based in Belfast. The successful candidate will support the delivery of geotechnical and geo-environmental investigations across a range of projects, contributing from initial scoping and desk studies through to site supervision, data interpretation, and reporting. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced technical teams while developing expertise across ground investigation, environmental assessment, and project delivery. The position combines office, remote, and site-based activities, with a significant focus on fieldwork and technical reporting.

  • Technical Delivery
    • Support the planning, design, and execution of ground investigations
    • Produce desk studies and contribute to interpretative geotechnical and geo-environmental assessments
    • Assist in delivering investigations to agreed technical and quality standards
  • Site Operations
    • Supervise and coordinate site investigation activities
    • Undertake logging, sampling, and monitoring works
    • Coordinate contractors and ensure site activities are delivered safely and efficiently
  • Data Analysis & Reporting
    • Collect, analyse, and interpret geotechnical and environmental data
    • Produce accurate, concise, and technically robust reports
    • Ensure high standards of technical documentation and reporting
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Promote and maintain best practice in health, safety, and environmental management
    • Ensure compliance across all office and site-based activities
    • Support safe systems of work and adherence to HSE standards
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across projects
    • Build effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and stakeholders
    • Communicate technical findings clearly and professionally

Skills & Experience

  • Essential
    • Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
    • Proven experience in ground investigation activities including site supervision, logging, monitoring, and reporting
    • Experience supporting geotechnical and geo-environmental investigations
    • Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental management practices
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Good IT and technical reporting skills
    • Full UK driving licence
    • Willingness to undertake site-based work, including overnight stays where required
  • Desirable
    • Experience working across infrastructure, water, defence, or energy projects
    • Experience within multidisciplinary consultancy environments
    • Exposure to interpretative reporting and environmental assessments

Working Environment

  • Location: Belfast
