Role Overview

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Electronic Architect to join a high-technology engineering organisation and play a key role in the development of advanced, precision electronic systems. Working within the electronic engineering function, you will contribute to research and development activities and help define future strategies and technology roadmaps for next-generation electronic products and solutions.

Salary: Approximately £70,000, dependent on experience

Locations: Multiple UK sites including the South East, South West, and North West (relocation support may be available)

Working Pattern: Flexible hybrid working, agreed at team level to balance business needs and individual effectiveness

Security Requirements: UK citizenship (or dual nationality including UK). Pre-employment background checks will be required.

The Role

You will be responsible for defining the electronic and electrical architecture of complex equipment, performing system-level analysis, and breaking down requirements into lower-level specifications for subsystems and components. A core part of the role involves ensuring demanding customer requirements are achieved within tight physical constraints and challenging environmental conditions.

Working closely with the Engineering Project Manager, you will lead all technical aspects of electronic equipment delivery, ensuring solutions are provided on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Strong communication skills are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with internal stakeholders and external customers. You will also be expected to demonstrate leadership, technical authority, and the ability to influence decisions. Proactivity, sound judgement, and adaptability in a fast-moving and ambitious environment are critical to success.

What We’re Looking For

You will ideally be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an electronics-related discipline, with substantial experience across several of the following areas:

  • Digital electronics and microprocessor-based systems
  • Power electronics for distributed power architectures
  • Design of equipment for safety-critical applications
  • Secure electronic design for handling sensitive data
  • Software and firmware development principles
  • Compact packaging and thermal management for high-performance electronics

Experience or knowledge in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • System-on-Chip (SoC) technologies
  • RF and signal processing
  • Software-defined radio
  • EMC compliance and environmental design

The Organisation

The company is a major player in the defence and advanced engineering sector, delivering highly sophisticated systems that support national security and critical operations. It works closely with government and industry partners to develop innovative technologies aimed at protecting people and infrastructure.

What’s on Offer

  • Annual Bonus: Performance-related bonus of up to around 20% of base salary
  • Pension: Generous pension scheme with combined employer and employee contributions of up to approximately 14%
  • Enhanced Family Leave: Extended maternity, adoption, and shared parental leave, with additional enhancements for paternity, neonatal leave, and fertility treatment support
  • Facilities: On-site amenities such as subsidised meals, free parking, and other employee benefits
  • Training & Development: Strong commitment to professional development, career progression, and ongoing technical training

Culture and Values

The organisation values collaboration, inclusivity, and diversity of thought. Employees are encouraged to bring new perspectives and experiences, and everyone is supported to reach their full potential.

A range of employee-led networks and wellbeing initiatives are in place, covering topics such as gender equality, LGBTQ+ inclusion, neurodiversity, parents and carers, ethnic diversity, and support for current and former armed forces personnel.
