Following the recent award of the Contract, my client will deliver the UKβs first Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) onto Royal Navy warships within the next two years. This landmark programme represents a step-change in defence capability and places the company at the forefront of laser weapon system development worldwide. As we build on this success, they are seeking flexible, motivated and technically astute engineers to help evolve the programme into a world-class, deployable LDEW air defence system. Their work combines pioneering technology, rapid experimentation and accelerated weapon system development, offering exposure across key Systems Engineering domains including requirements, design, performance analysis and certification.
What Weβre Looking For:
- PhD or significant industry experience in the development of laser technology at a system level.
- In-depth understanding of laser physics and optics, with the ability to influence and contribute to the design of cutting-edge laser systems.
- Strong capability in technical mediation, clearly communicating issues, architectures and ideas at all levels.
- Proven ability to explain complex laser and optics concepts to a wide audience, from senior leadership and technical specialists to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with partners, customers, key stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams.
- A passion for problem-solving, persistence and delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.
Desirable / Advantageous Experience:
- High-power laser technology and laser systems.
- Requirements analysis, specification development and technical justification.
- Systems proving, design assurance and certification.
- Development of complex systems, ideally within a defence environment.
- Supporting functional design with requirements flow-down to system, sub-system and equipment level.
- Experience with system architecting tools such as DOORS, DOORS NG or Rhapsody.
Security Clearance Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum, all successful candidates will be required to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks following offer stage.
