Please note: Industrial experience in the metals manufacturing sector is essential for this position. This will ideally be in an employed position with a manufacturer or processor within the aluminium or other metals manufacturing sector although we are also happy to consider people from academia who have worked on research projects in collaboration with, funded by or on behalf of metals manufacturing industry partners.

Purpose: You will join a world-class team providing a unique resource capable of solving the most complex of metals processing problems. You will have proven experience of working in the aluminium or a non-ferrous metals manufacturing environment. We are open to candidates with a deep understanding of one or more of the following production processes - casting, extrusion, rolling, fabrication, recycling or finishing operations. The role is based in a new purpose-built facility on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Sheffield but the position will entail the potential for regular short term overseas travel to provide high level consultancy and technical services to customers in the global aluminium industry.

The Role:

  • Developing and delivering effective, customer-focused technical solutions in a timely manner
  • Assisting customers with problem investigations, and then advising on solutions
  • Working with customers on production and process continuous improvement programmes
  • Supporting customers from an engineering and technical perspective on investment and expansion projects
  • Actively contributing to the growth of Innoval’s customer base, engaging with external customers to develop project proposals

About You:

  • Holds a degree level qualification in Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry or similar technical discipline.
  • 4 years minimum industrial experience of working at state of the art facilities in any of the following manufacturing sectors:
    • Primary aluminium or non-ferrous production
    • Remelting & casting foundries (Melting operations, DC casting, shaped casting, continuous casting, etc)
    • Hot, cold and foil Rolling mills
    • Finishing coil and plate operations (levelling, slitting, stretching, coating, etc)
    • Extrusion or forging operations
    • Recycling operations
  • Strong technical investigation and root cause analysis skills, able to develop and present effective & sustainable solutions.
  • Experience in working across multiple plants or processes would be desirable
  • Excellent data management attributes, including organisation, analysis, interpretation and reporting
  • Experience with data processing software, techniques and simulation models is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact with both technical and non-technical audiences in-person and across different communication platforms
  • Proven technical report writing abilities
  • Strong IT skills with familiarity with MS Office applications
  • Fluent written and spoken English language skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work both individually and as part of a multi-skilled team
  • Flexible to travel to customer sites when required
