Asset Technician Electrical in Peterborough

12 month rolling contract in Peterborough, UK at a rate of 26.91 per hour (Umbrella Inside IR35). This role will require some travel opportunities to customer sites along with other test facilities when required, so a full clean UK Driving licence and passport will be essential for this position. Currently, this role is day shift only (5-day week 08:00 to 16:30), with potential for shift work in the future. There may be discretionary early and late working to meet customer deliverables.

We are seeking a diverse, inclusive, and multi-disciplinary individual responsible for our advanced product research and development sector. As an APSD Technician, you will work on electrification, Powertrain, Diesel, hybrid, and power systems. This role requires deep technical knowledge along with hands-on mechanical and electrical skills. You will review and sign off while working with lead engineering to convert data into decision-making. This highly visible team works directly with all areas of our Europe Research and Development Centre (ERDC) and may report directly to our product groups.

Job Role Responsibilities and Duties:

• Responsible for advance power system development programmes.
• Work closely with APSD engineering leads to meet Product and Technical Objectives.
• Support activities with external service suppliers and internal customers.
• Provide feedback and updates on measurements and issues as instructed by APSD engineers.
• Work with logistics to obtain and order new parts and components, ensuring they meet specifications.
• Conduct direct build/strip and measure activities of electrification, Powertrain, Diesel, and hybrid components, including sub-assembly and testing.
• Conduct electrical safety checks to meet regulations and standards, including Insulation resistance, ground bonding, Hi-Pot checks, and communications using CANape and service tools.
• Conduct direct testing activities from Lead engineer’s instructions and run multiple test bed software, interpreting test plans and data for sign-off.
• Support data analysis on results and assist lead engineering teams using analysis software programs.
• Raise issues and report on build/test product concerns using the Pre-Production reliability development process (PPRDs).
• Support and review process and safety procedures as part of Continuous Improvements.
• Collaborate with Facilities engineering team to resolve facility requirements and provide feedback on new systems.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Relevant qualifications for this role – preferably a full modern apprenticeship scheme electrical/mechanical biased, BTC Higher Award in Test - ONC/HNC or Degree educated and/or equivalent job-related experience.
• Electronics/Electrical background in an accredited Engineering curriculum or HNC with at least 6 years demonstrable experience.

• Excellent problem solver, able to diagnose, repair, and rebuild across multiple disciplines.

Relevant Experience/Skills:

• Recognise and coach others in ensuring a safe, clean, and tidy work environment.

• Knowledge of environmental policy – MSDS & COSHH, spillages, safe disposal of waste & recycling.
• Accountable for raising safety issues and aware of all relevant risk assessments.
• Experience in build workshop environment working to product drawings/manuals for engineer’s design requirements (EDRs).
• Experience in power system level performance.
• Experienced in the use of testbed and software, calibration tools, and test data logging systems.
• Hands-on experience with past engine and transmission testing to support various testing and problem-solving.
• Use advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.

Desirable Experience/Skills:

• Experience/knowledge in electric vehicle & Motors (AC/DC) and hybrid technology.
• Experience working on high voltage systems/battery cells.
• Experience working on Transmissions and powertrain.
• Experience with development through new product Introduction (NPI) Process.
• Experience in supporting engine/transmission/calibration software (CANape/Cat ET/Service tools).
• Experience in wiring diagrams and able to manufacture and diagnose wiring harness problems.
• Experience in Hydraulics and fluid powered systems.
• Experience in fabrication and welding – Building frames and rig assemblies to support product testing.
• Experience in MHE – Forklift truck/pedestrian Pallet Truck A1,5/B1 (up to 3.5 Ton).
