Electrical/Electronic Junior Design Engineer

Location: Peterborough – Fully Onsite (5 Days/Week)

Contract: Initial Term – 12 months

Our Electronics, Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) team is seeking a Junior Electrical/Electronic Design Engineer to support electrical system layout, harness development, and compliance-focused design activities. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer ready to gain hands-on experience and work on real-world applications in a cutting-edge environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Junior Design Engineer, you’ll be working closely with senior engineers on projects that directly support engine test facilities and product development initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Vault
  • Designing electrical system layouts, schematics, and cable block diagrams
  • Supporting automotive wiring harness development for test systems
  • Referencing technical documentation to extract electrical data for designs
  • Developing installation/user documentation and test instructions
  • Participating in design reviews and preparing progress updates
  • Gaining practical hands-on experience with loom/harness builds and basic fault-finding

Your Skillset:

Required:

  • 1–3 years’ experience in electrical/electronic design
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or Autodesk Vault
  • Familiarity with PLM systems, component libraries, and icon/footprint creation
  • Understanding of CE / UKCA compliance and harmonised electrical standards
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills
  • A proactive, organised mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of SAE standards, automotive connectors, or switchgear selection
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, embedded electronics, or PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley)
  • Understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001 or ISO 17025)
  • Interest in or working toward IET registration or equivalent
  • Prior exposure to standards like EN 60204, EN 12100, BS 7671
