Ready to own more than your corner of Security?
You may already be the person people turn to in your current security team.
You know the environment, you solve the difficult problems and you probably have opinions about what should be done differently.
But ultimately, somebody else still sets the direction?
This role gives you the opportunity to change that.
We're recruiting a Senior Security Engineer for an international business that wants to give one person genuine ownership of its security estate.
You'll have the freedom to assess what's already there, decide where the real risks sit, improve the tooling and automation, and influence how the business approaches security across corporate IT, cloud, applications and AI.
This isn't a role where you'll spend your week clearing an alert queue someone else designed.
It's an opportunity to shape what Security looks like.
What you'll get to own
You'll work across an established Microsoft security environment including Defender XDR, Sentinel, Entra ID, Intune, Purview and Microsoft 365/Azure.
Your focus will include
- Improving detections and automating repetitive security work using KQL, Power Shell, Python and existing Microsoft tooling.
- Strengthening identity security, including Conditional Access, Identity Protection and privileged access.
- Looking beyond endpoint security into public-facing applications, vulnerabilities, external attack surface and penetration testing.
- Leading security investigations and helping improve incident response and ransomware resilience.
- Working alongside Infrastructure, Dev Ops and Software Engineering to identify risk and drive remediation.
- Helping the business turn recurring client security requirements into better controls, reusable evidence and less manual work.
- Contributing to how an AI-first business adopts new tools safely.
What we're looking for
You'll probably have 5+ years' experience in Security Engineering or Security Operations and strong exposure to a Microsoft security estate.
We'd particularly like to see experience with
Defender XDR | Sentinel | Entra ID | Microsoft 365 Security | Identity | KQL | Power Shell/Python | Incident Response | Vulnerability Management
- AWS exposure is useful, but you don't need to be an AWS specialist.
- You also don't need to be a software developer, but you should understand application-security risk well enough to challenge Engineering teams and know what good looks like.
- Practical AI use is important.
Whether you've used it to build automation, accelerate investigations, write detection logic or produce scripts, we want someone who already sees AI as a tool to improve how they work.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can form an opinion, prioritise risk and take ownership rather than wait for a list of tasks.
Location & package
The position is remote initially, but you must live within a sensible commuting distance of Porto.
The business plans to open its Porto office within the next 12 months, after which the role will move to hybrid working.
Alongside the €55,000 - €65,000 salary, the package includes bonus, 25 days' annual leave, health insurance, wellness allowance, L&D budget, Work From Anywhere allowance and additional benefits.
If you're currently one of the strongest engineers in someone else's security team and you're ready for more ownership, I'd be keen to speak.
