We are recruiting an experienced Care Home Chef to join a well-established nursing home, taking responsibility for delivering fresh, nutritious and enjoyable meals for residents.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chef looking for a rewarding permanent position with £15.00 per hour, structured working hours and an alternative to the late nights and unpredictable schedules often associated with restaurants and hospitality.
More Than Just Cooking
Food plays an incredibly important role in nursing-home life.
You'll be responsible for creating meals residents look forward to while ensuring their individual nutritional, dietary, cultural and clinical requirements are understood and catered for.
Working closely with the Home Manager, nursing and care teams, you'll ensure residents receive meals that are nutritious, appetising and appropriate for their individual needs.
Your Responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking fresh, nutritious meals for residents
- Developing varied, balanced and appealing menus
- Catering for individual dietary requirements, allergies and intolerances
- Preparing texture-modified meals where required
- Following IDDSI guidance
- Catering for residents requiring soft, minced & moist or puréed diets
- Supporting residents with diabetes and other specific dietary requirements
- Ensuring texture-modified meals remain appetising and well presented
- Understanding residents' individual preferences and incorporating these into menu planning
- Maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
- Managing food safety procedures, temperature records and documentation
- Maintaining HACCP, COSHH and Health & Safety standards
- Managing stock levels, ordering and food rotation
- Controlling food costs and reducing unnecessary waste
- Supporting and supervising kitchen colleagues
- Ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and consistently
- Working closely with nursing and care colleagues
- Supporting birthdays, celebrations and special events within the home
What We're Looking For
We'd particularly like to hear from candidates with experience as a:
Head Chef | Care Home Chef | Nursing Home Chef | Chef Manager | Kitchen Manager | Cook
Previous experience within a nursing home, care home, hospital or healthcare environment would be highly desirable.
Experienced chefs from hotels, restaurants, schools or other high-volume catering environments may also be considered if they have a genuine interest in moving into the care sector.
You should have:
- Strong professional cooking experience
- Excellent knowledge of Food Hygiene and kitchen safety
- Good understanding of allergens and special dietary requirements
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- Experience with stock control, ordering and minimising food waste
- The ability to work effectively within a busy kitchen
- High standards of cleanliness and food presentation
- A positive and compassionate approach to working with older people
Experience of IDDSI and texture-modified diets would be particularly advantageous.
Relevant catering and Food Safety/Food Hygiene qualifications are desirable.
The successful candidate will be required to complete the appropriate DBS and pre-employment checks.
