Materials Supervisor Based in Gloucester Β£41000 per annum We are excited to be recruiting a talented materials supervisor for a busy manufacturing plant in Gloucester. This role involves supervising the day-to-day control of production materials and consumables within the business, dealing with internal divisional heads and outside parties. This role is imperative to the smooth running of the production and despatch teams and overall success of the operation. The role will support the effective flow of materials by supervising the team, maintaining inventory accuracy, responding to agreed demand signals, administering and expediting approved purchase orders, and escalating potential supply risks. You will e nsure cost efficiency and cost effectiveness is maintained through managing the relationship with key suppliers and internal and external stakeholders, including; Group Purchasing, Production Planning, Customer Service, Production, Finance and Quality. Key Responsibilities of the role of materials supervisor: Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Materials team, allocate work, set clear daily priorities, monitor performance and escalate issues where required. Promote and maintain a safety-first approach within the team, ensuring safe working practices, housekeeping and material-handling standards are consistently followed. Collect, segregate by specification, store and reprocess internally generated materials process waste in cost effective production batches that maximise silo storage capacity and minimise non-value-added time due to equipment set-up, batch colour change and resulting materials process yield. Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate material availability to support the production plan. Organise, refine, and manage a basic system of located inventory control ensuring the FIFO replenishment of production materials and the use of Kanban to drive the replenishment of other consumable items. Review production requirements, demand signals and agreed demand information to identify replenishment needs. Develop a detailed knowledge of material and consumable requirements and support cost improvement by identifying opportunities, obtaining information from approved suppliers and escalating recommendations for review. Place and expedite purchase orders for approved production materials and consumables. Maintain accurate system records for purchase orders, receipts, inventory movements and material consumption. Organise the capture and accurate administration of the volume (kg) and rate (Kg/h) of production process waste collected, consumed, and reprocessed via the production plan for internally recycle materials. Work collaboratively with Planning, Production, Customer Service and suppliers to support material availability. Support basic analysis of material usage, stock variances and supplier delivery performance. Required skillset for the materials supervisor: Relevant practical training or demonstrable competence in materials planning, MRP, inventory control or manufacturing supply chain. Good standard of numeracy and literacy, with the ability to analyse inventory, demand and purchasing information. Recognised qualification in supply chain, materials management, inventory management or production planning, such as APICS/CPIM, CIPS or an equivalent vocational qualification. Formal supervisory or team-leadership training. Training in lean manufacturing, cycle counting, Kanban or continuous improvement. Relevant health and safety or material-handling qualification. Training or experience relating to plastics, extrusion or material recycling. Relevant experience within a materials, warehouse, purchasing, inventory or manufacturing environment. Experience of inventory control, purchase order administration or material replenishment is essential. Demonstrated potential to develop into a broader materials and supply chain leadership role.
