We have an exciting opportunity to join our world-class digital team. As a Junior Full-Stack Developer you'll be involved in the entire project lifecycle, from early concept and technical design through to build, deployment and ongoing refinement. Reporting to the Head of Development you'll play a critical role in our team's digital output. Our Digital Centre of Excellence is Devon-based, and we provide the opportunity for candidates to work between our creative and collaborative space in the centre of Plymouth and from home.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing, building and maintaining robust, scalable full‑stack solutions across front‑end and back‑end technologies
  • Translating creative and functional requirements into secure, performant, user‑centred digital experiences
  • Implementing responsive, accessible interfaces alongside reliable server‑side logic and integrations
  • Contributing to technical solution design and supporting the creation of technical documentation where needed
  • Integrating with content management systems, APIs, databases and third‑party services
  • Following development standards, best practices, and agreed methodologies
  • Collaborating with our Designers, Project Managers and other Developers to deliver high‑quality work on time and within budget
  • Supporting deployment, monitoring and ongoing optimisation of live solutions
  • Exploring and applying new tools, technologies and approaches to improve quality and efficiency

What you'll need to have

Essential skills:

  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with at least one modern front-end framework such as Vue.js, React or Angular
  • Understanding of how web applications communicate with APIs
  • Experience developing web applications through commercial work, freelance projects, internships, academic projects or personal projects
  • Basic knowledge of back-end development using technologies such as Node.js, .NET, ASP.NET, PHP or similar
  • Understanding of databases and data modelling concepts
  • Awareness of responsive design principles and cross-browser compatibility
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git
  • Ability to address problems and a willingness to participate in professional development activities to stay current on industry knowledge
  • Experience communicating updates and resolutions to customers and other partners, working within a team dynamic
  • Experience of managing workload independently to agreed timelines

Desirable skills:

  • Commercial experience in a software development role
  • A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development or a related discipline
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure
  • Awareness of DevOps concepts, CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes
  • Experience with Node.js
  • Understanding of web application security, performance and scalability principles
  • Familiarity with analytics or performance monitoring tools such as Google Analytics
  • Experience contributing to technical discussions, solution design or project planning
