We\’re looking for a hands-on, detail-focused Payroll Manager to oversee the accurate and compliant delivery of UK payroll operations within our Manchester Shared Service Centre. Supporting the payroll needs of a diverse and growing workforce, you\’ll contribute to daily operations, continuous improvement, and team development.
Operating as part of the wider Finance team, and reporting to the Deputy Process Owner – EMEA Payroll, this role is perfect for an experienced payroll professional ready to take ownership of end-to-end UK payroll delivery and contribute to broader regional goals.
As Payroll Manager, you will lead a team responsible for the end-to-end payroll process for UK employees, ensuring, accurate, and compliant delivery. You\’ll partner with other teams and external providers, champion process improvements, and support broader payroll projects across EMEA.
Key Responsibilities
- Payroll Operations Manage – Accurate UK payroll processing, including statutory calculations, adjustments, and third-party payments.
- Compliance & Controls – Ensure adherence to HMRC requirements and internal policies. Remain current on payroll legislation and apply changes.
- Vendor Management – Collaborate with payroll service providers and team members to ensure smooth data flow, issue resolution, and Service level agreement performance.
- Process Optimisation – Identify opportunities for automation and standardisation to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
- Reporting & Insights – Deliver payroll reports and insights to support Finance and HR teams. Support audit and compliance reviews.
- Team Development – Lead and support the UK payroll team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and service excellence.
- Collaboration Work with HR, Finance, and IT to support projects such as system upgrades, acquisitions, and policy changes.
What You Bring
- 5 years experience managing UK payroll operations in a complex organisations
- In-depth knowledge of UK payroll legislation and best practices
- Experience working with integrated HR/payroll systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, SAP)
- Deliver exceptional levels of detail and able to minimise error rates.
- Experience working across differing departments to deliver projects
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- A continuous improvement mindset, focused on process, people, and performance
- Professional payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP) preferred
