Marketing & Communications Executive in Birmingham

Birmingham Full-Time On-site
I

iSE (Initiative for Social Entrepreneurs) provides tailored training and advisory services to businesses/founders that want to increase their social value. We support social enterprises with training and business development, and we offer consultancy to corporate clients that want to deepen their social impact. We create practical opportunities for organisations and individuals to contribute to positive social change. iSE is a Community Interest Company and a recognised social enterprise, and we hold the Social Enterprise Mark, which reflects our commitment to practising the values we promote.

Our mission is to grow Birmingham's social economy, foster employment and regenerate communities. We work with community groups, social enterprises, small businesses and public bodies across the city, with a particular commitment to people and communities that traditional business support has under-served. From our base at the Women's Enterprise & Community Hub, we offer advice, coaching, workshops, events and space to work, and we bring support into the neighbourhoods where entrepreneurs already live and trade.

Social enterprises sit at the heart of what we do. We help them plan, find funding, build skills, measure impact, and connect with partners, somore of what they earn is reinvested in local people and places. We also build partnerships between social enterprises, businesses and public bodies, so that organisations that want to make a difference can find the right people to work with. As a small, community-rooted organisation, we reinvest what we earn into our work, and we practise the values we promote.

About the job

Do you love telling the stories that inspire and engage people?

Join iSE as our Marketing & Communications Executive and help deliver a funded business support programme with local authority partners, fill our workspace and show the difference social enterprise makes across Birmingham, on part-time hours that fit around your life.

About the role

As iSE's marketer, you will put the marketing strategy set by our Director into practice. Working two days a week on a hybrid basis and reporting to the Director, you will focus on several activities that directly support iSE's funded programme targets: promoting a three-year business support programme, a host of events engaging 150 businesses within the region; filling workspaces at the Women's Enterprise & Community Hub; and capturing the stories and data that show funders and partners the impact that we make.

This is a varied role with real autonomy, spanning content, campaigns, events and evidence, with support from the Director. You will be confident taking a brief from strategy through to delivery, and able to prioritise sensibly within part-time hours.

Your priority will be our funded business support programme. You will create event listings and promote business advisory-led events/workshops, our monthly business leaders' roundtables; work alongside our Business Development Advisors to engage 150 businesses; coordinate joint promotion and co-delivered activity with our local authority partners; provide live event support and on-the-day content capture within normal working hours; and keep attendee and business engagement records accurate in our CRM, contributing data to shared programme reporting. You will also promote our offices, co-working and hot desks through our website, social media, workspace listings and local networks, log and track enquiries in our CRM and pass qualified leads to the Director for viewings, plan and deliver a content calendar across social media, the website and a regular email newsletter, produce graphics, photography and short-form video in line with our brand guidelines and tone of voice, represent iSE at events and community meetings across Birmingham, respond to comments and messages on our channels, gather case studies and testimonials with the correct consent for marketing and funder reporting, and provide a monthly report to the Director on enquiries, sources, conversions and results against agreed targets.

You will use digital and AI-assisted tools responsibly, ensuring accuracy, data protection and human review of everything we publish.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Experience of delivering social media, email and content marketing.
  • Experience of generating and tracking enquiries, bookings or sign-ups
  • The ability to produce graphics, photography and short video using tools such as Canva
  • Confidence with digital tools, including email platforms, social media scheduling and basic analytics
  • An awareness of UK GDPR and PECR, including consent for using people's images, stories and testimonials

You will bring:

  • Excellent written English, with the ability to write clearly for different audiences and channels
  • Creativity and strong attention to detail, producing engaging, accurate and on-brand work
  • The self-motivation to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Good organisation, with the confidence to prioritise a varied workload within two days a week
  • The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, tenants and partners, and to be comfortable in a fast-paced environment
  • A genuine commitment to iSE's social purpose and to equality, diversity and inclusion

It would be a real advantage to have:

  • Experience in the social enterprise, business, charity, workspace or property sector
  • Experience of using a CRM to record enquiries, bookings or engagement
  • An awareness of accessible communications
  • An awareness of the responsible use of AI tools in marketing
  • Skills in videography, video editing, graphic design, branding and copywriting
  • Social media management and content creation, website design, SEO, analytics and insights, and A/B testing
  • Experience of managing project budgets and working on funded projects

Qualifications and requirements:

  • A marketing, communications or digital qualification is welcome but not essential, and equivalent experience (paid, freelance or voluntary) carries equal weight
  • Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a short practical task as part of the interview
  • You must be based in Birmingham, as this hybrid role involves regular in-person attendance at our office, events and community meetings in Birmingham
  • The right to work in the UK is essential

This is a fantastic opportunity to do creative, meaningful work that helps Birmingham's social economy grow, within a team where your ideas count.

At iSE, our employees benefit from:

  • Part-time hours: 15 hours per week (two days)
  • Salary of £12,000 a year for two days (15 hours) a week (£30,000 full-time equivalent, pro rata)
  • Flexible working: working days agreed with you at appointment
  • Hybrid working: the ability to work from home on agreed days, with the Women's Enterprise & Community Hub in Birmingham as your base for office days, events and community meetings
  • Annual leave: 12 days a year, including bank holidays (pro rata to a full-time entitlement of 30 days)
  • Pension / Salary Sacrifice Scheme
  • A fixed-term contract of 12 months (with the possibility of extension, subject to funding)
  • Company laptop and work mobile phone
  • Free parking at the office
  • A structured induction and professional development support
  • The chance to work for a recognised social enterprise and Social Enterprise Mark holder that practises the values it promotes
