Join our national Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) and play a vital role in supporting early diagnosis and improving outcomes for patients with long‑term conditions. Working in partnership with NHS Trusts, commissioning organisations and GP practices, our services help deliver high‑quality, patient‑focused care across the UK.

The Role

As a Corporate Retinal Grader, you’ll be part of our central grading team, delivering accurate, consistent and high‑quality diabetic retinal grading across multiple programmes. Your work will directly support clinical decision‑making and help ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide first, second, arbitration, referral outcome (ROG) and OCT grading in line with NDESP guidance (as signed off by the Clinical Lead)
  • Complete monthly EQA grading tests
  • Attend and actively participate in MDT meetings and continuous professional development activities
  • Become an expert user of Spectra
  • Maintain strict data security and confidentiality standards at all times
  • Follow all grading protocols, ensuring regular review for ongoing compliance
  • Contribute to performance improvement through feedback, competency assessments and proficiency testing
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues using MS Teams, email and other systems

What You’ll Bring

  • Completed Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Diploma or Level 3 Diploma for Health Screeners
  • Signed off to grade at all levels, including ROG (and OCT where applicable)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to concentrate for extended periods
  • A professional, empathetic and calm approach
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft packages and clinical systems
  • A strong understanding of data protection and patient confidentiality

Experience Required

  • Grading across First, Second, Arbitration and ROG levels
  • Working within a structured clinical or screening environment
  • Using IT systems to manage and assess clinical data
  • Collaborating within a team while also working autonomously
