The Surrey & North East Hampshire Breast Screening Service (SNEH) is part of the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP), providing high-quality, population-based breast screening to women aged 50-71 (and beyond by self-referral). Delivered from the Jarvis Breast Centre and five mobile screening units, the service supports over 210,000 women across Surrey and North East Hampshire. Working in partnership with NHS England, commissioners and local providers, the service is committed to early cancer detection, patient safety, equitable access and continuous improvement.
An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Director to lead the Surrey & North East Hampshire Breast Screening Service (SNEH). The service operates from a static screening centre and five mobile units, providing breast screening services to a population of over 210,000 women across Surrey and North East Hampshire.
The Clinical Director is accountable for the safe, effective and high-quality clinical delivery of the Surrey & North East Hampshire Breast Screening Service. The postholder will provide strategic and operational clinical leadership across the full screening pathway, from invitation to diagnosis, ensuring compliance with NHSBSP standards, clinical governance requirements and contractual obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and professional supervision across the breast screening service.
- Ensure delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care in line with NHSBSP, NHS England and local quality standards.
- Lead clinical governance, quality assurance, audit, risk management and patient safety processes.
- Act as Clinical Lead for the Training Centre, supporting education, training and workforce development.
- Support service transformation and continuous improvement, including pathway redesign and adoption of new technologies.
- Represent the service at regional and national meetings and work collaboratively with NHS partners, commissioners and stakeholders.
- Promote equality of access and support initiatives to improve screening uptake and reduce health inequalities.
Person Specification
- Registered healthcare professional with significant experience in breast screening.
- Eligible background as Consultant Radiologist, Associate Specialist or Consultant Radiographer.
- Extensive knowledge of NHSBSP standards and clinical governance frameworks.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing service delivery.
- Experience of quality improvement, audit and service development.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience of workforce planning, education and training delivery.
- Involvement in research or service innovation within breast screening.
