Are you a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse with an interest in breast care? Are you looking to develop your career within a supportive screening service? We’re excited to offer an opportunity for a Trainee Breast Care Nurse to join our friendly team in Exeter. This is a developmental role. We welcome applications from nurses who do not yet hold a specialist Breast Care qualification but are keen to undertake the necessary training and development to progress into a fully qualified Breast Care Nurse role.

The North and East Devon Breast Screening Service invites around 100,000 women for screening every three years. Our static screening unit at Matford Business Centre provides both screening and assessment clinics, supported by two mobile units covering 19 community sites across North and East Devon. Patients requiring treatment are referred to the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust for surgical and oncology services. This is a role where you can truly make a difference – offering clinical support, reassurance, and compassionate care during what can be an anxious and uncertain time for patients.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support women attending breast assessment clinics, providing reassurance and clear information
  • Develop the skills to offer emotional and practical support to patients and their families
  • Learn to guide patients through assessment findings and treatment pathways with clarity and compassion
  • Identify women who may need additional support and signpost appropriately
  • Provide evidence-based information to help patients make informed decisions
  • Work closely with experienced Breast Care Nurses and clinicians as you progress through your training
  • Champion patient-centred care across the screening service

Full support and structured development will be provided to help you grow into the specialist Breast Care Nurse role.

What we’re looking for

  • A Registered General Nurse (RGN) with post-registration experience
  • Passionate about women’s health and delivering high-quality, compassionate care
  • An excellent communicator who can handle sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism
  • Organised, adaptable, and able to prioritise effectively in a busy clinical environment
  • A strong team player who is eager to learn and develop specialist skills
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of confidentiality and patient care
  • Experience in breast care, oncology, screening services, or women’s health would be advantageous but is not essential.

Most importantly, you’ll have the motivation and commitment to undertake further training and development within the role.

Why join us?

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop into a specialist Breast Care Nurse within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation. You’ll gain valuable experience, receive structured training, and play a meaningful role in supporting women across North and East Devon.

Ready to take the next step in your nursing career? If you’re a Registered Nurse looking to specialise in breast care and make a genuine difference to women’s lives, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and begin your journey with us.
